Welding radiators: what are the advantages?

Due to all the advantages of welding, many consumers prefer this option when replacing batteries. Welding heating batteries has the following advantages:

  • Neat appearance; after painting, the weld seam remains almost invisible.
  • A high degree of reliability, provided that the welding work is carried out by a specialist, the seam is characterized by high strength and durability. It is important to note that the weld can provide the system with much greater reliability than any other modern connection, such as a fitting.

Thanks to the availability of modern welding equipment, the specialists working in our company are able to install batteries in the shortest possible time.

Replacing heating batteries in welding: what you need to know

In order to save a little money, some users try to replace the batteries in their home themselves. However, it should be borne in mind that replacing batteries requires the technician not only to have knowledge and skills, but also to follow certain rules. Violation of the battery installation process can lead to an accident and additional financial costs. Therefore, welding of heating radiators should only be carried out using modern equipment and performed only by a qualified specialist. The welding process is as follows. First of all, it is important to find out what the operating pressure is in the heating system; if it exceeds 8 atmospheres, then you should buy bimetallic batteries.

The heating system is completely drained of water, after which the old batteries are cut out with a grinder. The ends of the pipes are thoroughly cleaned of dirt and rust, after which a new battery is installed in the vacant space and welded to the pipes of the heating system using a welding machine.

Our specialists use only high-quality and reliable equipment, which allows for quick dismantling and installation of the battery. Our welding equipment is stable and of high quality, so there are no complications during the battery welding process. Our company’s craftsmen have extensive experience in welding work, which allows them to perform work of any complexity with the highest quality and accuracy.

Replacing batteries with gas welding guarantees high-quality seams!

The appearance of new proposals on the heating equipment market prompts the population to think about replacing old batteries with new heating radiators. In order to carry out the replacement, it is important to correctly determine how the heating radiators will be installed. There are many options by which the job can be done, but the most effective is to use a gas welder. This is due to the fact that replacing batteries with gas welding has many advantages such as:

  • Increased reliability. Provided that the work is completed by a highly qualified craftsman, the resulting seam will be reliable, thanks to which it can serve ideally for many years. In addition, the weld seam will not require additional attention, as is observed when performing installation using pre-mounted joints. This is due to the fact that the connection point does not have an additional seal, which, as a rule, is not durable in operation.
  • Neat appearance. After the welding work is completely completed, the seam remains almost invisible, so it does not spoil the external design of the room and can remain in the open.

Only an experienced technician should be trusted to install heating radiators, since the efficiency and economy of the heating system will depend on the quality of the work performed. The craftsmen of our company are able to install radiators using gas welding efficiently and accurately.

The advantage of replacing batteries with gas welding

Welding is a special process in which molten metal is poured between the edges of parts heated to a certain temperature. It is important to note that the edges are heated to a temperature required by the technology and the characteristics of the material itself.

Gas welding work is carried out to weld metal parts of various shapes; in addition, welding is used to eliminate defects from a metal surface, regardless of its shape and size.

Gas welding work to replace batteries consists of:

  • preparatory part;
  • welding (applying a seam);
  • eliminating cracks and cavities from the surface of a metal part;
  • smoothing seams (if necessary).

Only specially trained specialists are allowed to perform gas welding work, since only they are able to weld metal surfaces together as correctly and efficiently as possible.

How to replace heating batteries with gas welding

As already noted, with the help of gas welding it is possible to install heating radiators with the highest quality and reliability. The main explanation for this is that the metal edges of the pipe and radiator are connected by molten metal, which is formed as a result of melting the filler wire. Using gas welding, you can easily and most importantly quickly connect steel pipes to a radiator, the outer diameter of which does not exceed 100 millimeters. The fastening points (weld seam) are reliable and able to withstand high operating pressure in the system, which eliminates the possibility of a breakthrough. It should also be noted that the seam made by the master looks very neat compared to fittings and other available

Over time, the owners of their own household or apartment in a multi-storey building have to deal with replacing heating batteries. It is advisable to determine which method to install radiators - using gas welding or the threaded method - together with highly qualified specialists.

Advantages of replacing appliances with gas welding

Without having special knowledge and skills to carry out work in this area, it is difficult to decide on the option for installing radiators. It is important to remember that poor-quality installation of heating equipment can result in costly damage to personal and sometimes other people’s property.

In recent years, heating batteries have increasingly been replaced with gas welding. The reason for its great demand is that the resulting weld at the junction of the devices with the riser (pipes) is significantly stronger than the elements being joined together.

This type of connection is able to withstand water hammer and increased pressure of the coolant supplied to the heating system in multi-apartment buildings. The use of gas welding when replacing radiators allows you to avoid leaks and ruptures of joints, as well as wear of the seals used.

Features of the use of gas welding

Externally, a neatly cleaned weld seam looks more aesthetically pleasing than bulky threaded fittings. But it must be taken into account that the installation of heating radiators using gas welding is more suitable for residential buildings with a centralized heat supply system.

In turn, in private households it is necessary to more often carry out work related to removing air from the heating structure and cleaning the radiators. For this reason, in this situation, the use of a threaded connection is preferable to a welded connection, since it makes the process of dismantling/installing devices easier.

Nuances of gas welding work

The connection of several parts during gas welding occurs by heating the joining edges and filler material to the melting temperature. As a result, the resulting connection is highly durable and able to withstand significant loads.

Batteries are replaced by gas welding using special equipment - an acetylene generator, an oxygen cylinder, a burner and a gas reducer. To carry out gas welding work in an apartment building, you need to obtain the appropriate permit. The welder who must perform this type of work must have the appropriate certificate and fire safety permit.

Stages of work to replace heating batteries

Each model range of radiators has advantages and disadvantages, depending on the installation location and operating conditions.

Change batteries in stages:

  1. Preparatory activities. Before replacing the batteries on a gas welder, you need to prepare the room, namely, insulate pieces of furniture, cover the floor and walls, protecting them from damage. Liquid is drained from the system. Using a grinder, they dismantle devices that have become unusable.
  2. Assembling a new radiator. At the joints, the nuts are sealed with flax, coated with investment paste and carefully tightened. A valve is placed on top, designed to vent air, and on the side where it joins the pipe, an American valve with a squeegee is installed.
  3. Installation of a new radiator. It is placed on special brackets, after which all connections with pipes are adjusted - they are welded and then cleaned. You need to know that gas welding is carried out with pipes whose diameter does not exceed 100 millimeters.
  4. Final stage. After replacing heating radiators using gas welding is completed, you should check the heat supply system for the strength of the connections and their tightness.

The use of gas welding compared to the threaded method is a more expensive and time-consuming process, which has disadvantages. But the advantage of this installation method is its durability and reliability.

The difference between the two replacement options

Replacing batteries using gas welding has a number of advantages over the threaded method:

  • welding creates very strong connections;
  • the seam is more aesthetically pleasing than the presence of massive fittings and nuts;
  • the absence of seals contributes to the durability of joints;
  • this is the only way to install radiators in systems with high pressure, since the threads will not withstand such loads;
  • when using the threaded method, more than 12 seams are formed, and when gas welding - no more than 5.

  1. I install heating radiators regardless of the location of the old supply pipes.

  2. In addition to the quality of installation, I also pay great attention to the aesthetics of the overall appearance of the connection.

  3. I don't use old pieces of pipe, welded elbows or welded threads... just solid pipe that I bend and thread.

  4. I use a “roller” pipe bender, which guarantees a small radius and a perfectly even pipe bend, regardless of the quality of the pipe being bent.

  5. For packing taps and installing “American” valves, I use anaerobic sealant (guaranteed for the entire service life of the connection without corrosion).

  6. In cases where the installation of taps is done on flax with paste, I roll notches, which guarantees the fixation of the flax and prevents it from being squeezed out.

  7. When welding pipes, I use pipe joining into a socket... based on the requirement

  8. Guaranteed welding without leaking welds the first time. (especially relevant in cases where it is not possible to pressurize the system)

  9. Only high-quality and original materials and time-tested components.

  10. Guarantee of Quality and Aesthetic appearance of all work performed.

and... Good mood for the entire service life of the heating radiators :)

pipe bending: comparison of bends of a roller pipe bender and a hydraulic one + bends with different bending radii... standard and small, which I use in my work

packaging materials: only high-quality anaerobic Loctite sealants and investment materials... Vibra-Tite paste + Geb flax

knurling of notches: additional guarantee against extrusion of flax when screwing and assembling threaded connections

socket welding: guaranteed high-quality welding joint, regardless of the conditions and ease of welding, recommended by SNiP

High-quality and original materials and components: FAR, RB, GEB, Loctite, Vibro-Tite, Fischer

Replacement of heating radiators with gas welding

Installation, installation of one heating radiator with a turnkey pipe bender - from 10,000 rubles

This amount includes... dismantling the old radiator and all the necessary preparatory and installation work: measurements, cutting threads, packing taps, bending pipes.

As a rule, there is a partial replacement of the riser from the floor to the middle of the riser, above the mounting sleeve, including a complete replacement of horizontal supply pipes. This allows you to achieve horizontal and parallel precision in the location of the supply pipes in relation to the radiator and the wall. As a result, it allows you to place the radiator as expected, regardless of the location (height) of the lower and upper horizontal supply pipes.

Since I use a pipe bender, I only purchase the pipe itself, which I bend myself and cut threads only in the right places to install taps at the work site... and all this (except for the pipe itself) is already included in the price of installing the radiator!! !

Steel tubular and other non-standard designer radiators Zender, Arbonia, bay window, niches and other non-standard connection types - from 12,000 rubles

Remove the convector (old radiator) and straighten the heating riser - 6,000 rubles

Approximate time to complete gas welding work - from about 3 days (it all depends on the complexity and number of radiators)

First and second day: arrival and preparatory work for assembling new radiators, attaching brackets and hanging radiators (if possible), taking measurements, bending and cutting pipes, cutting threads and packing valves - the most complete preparation before the final stage of pipe welding.

The third day: turning off and draining the water for the final final stage of work - re-welding the supply pipes.

As a rule, the last stage of welding (including adjustment) takes approximately 1.5 - 2 hours for each radiator.

Re-welding of water supply risers with gas welding

Overcooking of one water supply riser in a straight line (galvanization) - from 15,000 rubles .

Approximate time to complete gas welding work - approximately 3 days (depending on complexity)

First and second day: arrival and preparatory work... preparation of riser rods with welding of new bends, bending of pipes to move risers (if necessary) and packing of taps.

The third day: in the first half of the day, shutting off and draining the water for the final, final stage of work... overcooking the risers.

As a rule, to avoid contamination, both water risers (cold and hot) are turned off at the same time... the time it takes to overcook two water supply risers at the same time is approximately 2 hours

Working with frozen pipes

Replacement and installation of one heating radiator with frozen pipes, without disconnecting the heating risers

Time required for freezing pipes- from approximately 3 days (it all depends on the complexity and number of radiators)

It all depends on the complexity of the execution... how many radiators are being replaced, so many days of work, taking into account the stages and preparatory work + installation itself.

As a rule, work occurs in several stages:

1. The most difficult thing... is freezing the riser and dismantling the old convector with a temporary jumper to restore circulation through the heating riser.

2. Assembling a new radiator and hanging it in the right place, followed by taking measurements and preparing the necessary supply pipe blanks.

3. The final stage... re-freezing the riser, with adjustment and final connection of the new heating radiator.

A question that sooner or later faces almost every resident, be it an apartment in an apartment building or their own home in the private sector.

Among the variety of existing types of heating batteries and methods of their installation, it is difficult to make the right choice without special knowledge and experience in this area.

Therefore, whether the heating batteries will be replaced using gas welding or a threaded method, and what type of radiators to use, is best decided together with qualified specialists. If replacement and installation work is performed poorly, there is a high risk of costly property damage.

Advantages and nuances

Today, replacing radiators of heating systems with gas welding is becoming increasingly popular. This is easily explained: the resulting weld at the junction of the radiator with the pipe (riser) is significantly stronger than the welded parts themselves.

Such a connection can withstand both strong water hammer and high pressure under which water is supplied to the heating system in all multi-apartment residential buildings. Using the gas welding method, you can prevent problems with leakage and failure of connections, as well as wear of its seal.

When not to use

The appearance of a neat cleaned weld seam is more aesthetically pleasing compared to bulky threaded method connection fittings. However, you need to take into account that gas welding is more suitable for homes with a central heating system. In private homes, batteries much more often need to be cleaned and air removed from the system, so a threaded connection in this case is better than a welded one: it will facilitate the installation process if necessary.

Replacement principle

Gas welding is the process of joining several parts by heating their contacting edges and filler material to the melting point. The result is a high-strength connection that can withstand significant loads. Gas welding is performed using special equipment: as a rule, this is an acetylene generator, an oxygen cylinder, gas reducers and a burner.

Execution of work

When performing gas welding work, you must first obtain the appropriate permission to carry it out, if we are talking about an apartment building. It is also important to verify the qualifications of the welder who will carry out welding work: it is mandatory that he has the appropriate certificate and a valid fire safety permit.

Main stages

Very wide: bimetallic, the most popular, aluminum, panel, cast iron. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice depends on the installation location and operating conditions.

Preparation and assembly

Before starting welding work, it is necessary to prepare the room: insulate the furniture, protect the walls and floor from possible damage. It is necessary to drain the water from the system and remove the coolant (in other variations). Next, using a grinder, you need to dismantle the used radiators

After all the preparatory work, you need to assemble a new battery for installation. To do this, the nuts at the joints are sealed with flax, coated with investment paste and tightened tightly. A special valve is installed on top to vent air, and an American ball valve with a squeegee is installed on the side of the connection with the pipe.

Installation

The new battery is installed on special brackets, after which all connections with pipes are adjusted - they are welded, and then the seams are cleaned. It should be taken into account that gas welding is usually used to connect pipes not exceeding 100 mm in diameter.

After welding work, it is imperative to check the system for strength and tightness. Replacing radiators using gas welding compared to the threaded method is a longer and more expensive process, which has some disadvantages. But quality, reliability and durability are an indisputable and winning advantage.

Read more about the differences

Replacing batteries using gas welding differs from the threaded method in several ways. So, in addition to the already mentioned aesthetics and the absence of massive nuts and fittings, gas welding allows you to create very strong connections.

Thus, in the threaded method, more than 12 seams are created, and in the gas welding method, as a rule, no more than 5. This protects the batteries from breaking through the heating system during pressure surges. The absence of seals also contributes to the durability of the structure.

The welding connection is indispensable, since this is the only way to replace batteries in high-pressure systems: the threads in such cases simply cannot withstand the load and the pipes break.
