The structure of drying machines and the principle of their operation. Washing machine with dryer: reviews

Before I begin, I’ll immediately make it clear that I am by no means a technical specialist and do not at all claim to have an authoritative opinion in this area. My review is the first impressions of a housewife who was lucky enough to use this miracle technology for 3 months.

We have a washing machine LG F12A8CDP.The choice was mainly made by my husband, and he insisted on the drying function, being confident that it would make our life much easier. How did it really come out? I'll tell you a little later. First, a few words about the unit itself and washing.

Depth 44 cm, the machine is designed for loading up to 6 kg. After the narrow cars that we got along with rented apartments, this is just some kind of fairy tale)) You no longer have to take large bedspreads to the laundry! Hooray!

The design is quite decent, rather high-tech, with a lot of metal elements. The panel is ergonomically designed. A large metal mode selection knob, large power and pause buttons, a clear touch panel with which you can configure each mode. There are 14 modes in total.

Maximum speed – 1200. The cycle duration is displayed. The start time of the cycle can be programmed. Turning the machine on and off, each press or turn of the knob is accompanied by “light music”. It looks something like this))

The car, according to the manufacturer's description, bubble drum, and he looks like this))

The car really has low vibration and noise levels, This a definite plus. It also washes well, no complaints. Is it true Do you have any questions about the "children's" options?. Let's start with the “baby clothes” mode. The default temperature is set to 60 degrees and you can only change it to 95 degrees! I wash most of my children’s clothes at a temperature of 40, so they feel better. This means it’s not fate)) The second point is the child lock function. It seems to be there, and when a child presses buttons or sensors, nothing really happens, except for pressing the off button (!!!). The car actually shuts down if you press it! When you turn it on again, the cycle starts again, from the very beginning! You have to pause and reset the mode. What is the point of this blocking then? Mystery))

Now as for drying. It can be run separately, or you can select the “wash + dry” mode. Loading limit – 3 kg. Eat 4 types of drying: standard, gentle, ironing and eco drying. Personally I use machine drying carefully. No matter how gentle drying is, delicate items, including children’s items, suffer from it. However, this also applies to a separate dryer, which we use when we come to visit relatives in Europe. Therefore, I use drying only for bed linen, towels and what I don’t mind - namely men’s socks and underwear)) With socks, without a twinge of conscience, I set the standard mode and take out completely dry ones. And no more sock garlands hanging around the apartment that irritated me so much! As for bed linen, it is better to wash the duvet cover and sheet separately, so they are less wrinkled. And it is better to choose the mode for ironing or eco drying. Things after them remain a little damp. You can finish drying them in the dryer, this will happen quite quickly, and the things will be softer and less chewy. I do the same with towels. By the way, when using drying, do not skimp on conditioner! Pour from the heart, to the maximum level. The fact is that during the drying process, laundry acquires a specific smell. The conditioner more or less overcomes it and makes things softer. Another important point about drying! This is a multi-hour event that is best planned for the night. In addition, the nightly electricity tariff is usually lower. The wash + dry cycle can last on average 3-4 hours, depending on volume. Previously, I thought that the car could not be opened for about the same amount of time due to the heating element cooling down. If you, like me, neglect to read the instructions, know that this is not true. Simply, after the end of the cycle, the drum recycles the contents for up to 4 hours so that it wrinkles less. You can open the door by pressing and holding the "pause" button. That's it))

So, conclusion! Overall the car is good, But, in my opinion, not everyone should overpay for the drying option. The function is useful if you are cramped in terms of living conditions, and a clothes dryer standing in the middle of the only room creates real discomfort. I believe that a washing machine with a dryer will become a helper in large families, and will also save those who are unlucky enough to live in damp, dark apartments, where the same garlands with socks are forced to hang for several days in a row. Concerning the differences between such machine drying and drying in a full-fledged drying apparatus, then I saw only one thing - a limitation on loading (but you won’t have to install another bandura)) otherwise the effect is the same.

A washer-dryer will completely solve the problem of wet laundry. It is not always possible to dry a large number of things in one day, especially if you are in a small apartment. In addition, an additional problem may arise in the form of excess humidity in the room. If you dry your clothes outside, you will need to periodically monitor them, which also brings significant inconvenience. Of course, you can separately, but it is much more convenient to buy a washer-dryer.

The washing machine with dryer has two functions at once: an automatic mode for washing and drying clothes. Unlike conventional models, the drying and washing machine performs a full cycle of caring for your things:

  • automatic washing;
  • rinsing;
  • spin;
  • drying.

In addition, experts have proven that even the most ordinary washing machines with a minimum set of programs with a drying function save the user’s time up to 15-16 hours per month.

How the device works

The principle of operation of this device with the function of drying clothes is a little more complicated than that of. It has built-in additional design elements such as:

  • electric heating element– designed for heating air;
  • fan with duct– allows hot air to penetrate into the drum with things;
  • blades in the drum– do not allow the laundry to sit, and prevent the formation of bends and folds;
  • sensors that detect humidity– show the degree of drying of the laundry;
  • built-in reservoir– collects excess moisture, which is converted into liquid.

There are tankless clothes washers and dryers. They are convenient and good because excess moisture does not collect in the container, but immediately flows down the drain, and the reservoir does not need to be emptied periodically.

After the main wash, rinsing and spinning, the laundry drying program is activated. The drum continues to rotate slowly, and warm air begins to flow into it, which gradually dries things.

There are several drying programs:

  1. Basic drying programs (intensive, gentle, cabinet drying).
  2. Additional functions (ironing, dry washing, refreshing).

Different manufacturers may use different names for basic and additional functions, but the principle of their operation will be the same. An indispensable program that allows you to dry things in a short period of time (40-60 minutes) is quick drying. Other programs require more time to dry things, but you will protect yourself and your things from excessive wrinkles, wrinkles and drying out.

Pros and cons of devices

Many consumers believe that due to their multifunctionality and complex design, washing machines and dryers quickly break down and are inconvenient to use. Fortunately, this is not the case. The equipment that received quality certification and was tested for absence of marriage, serves at least within the warranty period, or even for several decades.

If you used the machine for its intended purpose, then you should not have any problems with it. To do this, you must follow the following recommendations:

  • do not overload the drum with things;
  • Do not allow children to use the control unit;
  • not connected to a socket with other electrical appliances;
  • do not wash things that could damage the internal parts of the device;
  • Do not machine dry silk, woolen or bulky items.

During drying, the device needs to consume an increased amount of energy. Therefore, if you plan to dry clothes frequently, get ready for a slight increase in your electricity bill.

Positive sides

  1. Compactness– a washing machine with a 2-in-1 function will take up much less space than two different devices.
  2. Drying speed– allows you to dry an impressive amount of laundry in a short time, regardless of weather conditions and time of year.
  3. Versatility– with this model of machine you can dry not only clothes, but also shoes, pillows, outerwear and even children’s toys.
  4. Reducing humidity in the house– you no longer need to look for a convenient place in the house to hang wet things that increase the level of humidity.

Negative sides

  1. Limited– if you load the maximum amount of laundry, you will have to dry it in several stages. This entails a significant investment of time and energy.
  2. Price– a washing machine with such functions is approximately 25–30% more expensive than a regular one.
  3. Clothing wear– if you use the main modes incorrectly, this threatens rapid wear of things.

Basic selection options

Before purchasing a dryer, you need to pay attention to the main parameters - maximum loading weight and the presence of drying not only by timer, but also by residual moisture. If you take good care of the device, it will serve you for a fairly long period of time.

It is believed that a combined machine is well suited for drying clothes, since it can be stopped at any time and the required amount of laundry added.

To finally make your choice, you need to delve into all the details: find out how the drying function works in the model you choose, how reliable and safe it is for the body; What advantages does this particular model of washing machine have? It is very important to familiarize yourself with operating rules device, since proper handling will ensure long and uninterrupted operation.

For several years now, on the domestic market you can find washing machines equipped with a clothes drying function; most consumers continue to hang clothes on heating radiators, on the balcony or in the yard in the old fashioned way and are wary of the new product. People who have used the additional drying function have diametrically opposite opinions. Thus, one part of users complains about wrinkled, overdried or sometimes damp laundry, while the other, on the contrary, has long stopped using irons and portable clothes dryers due to the high quality of the machine’s work. So who to believe, and should we forget about the usual drying methods and take advantage of the next achievement of progress?

The principle of drying clothes in a washing machine

A washing machine capable of drying clothes differs from a regular one by the presence of another heating element - a heating element. The main heating element is used to heat water and is located between the tank and the drum at the bottom of the device. The second heater is used to heat the air forced into the tank of the machine by a fan through a special air duct.

There is nothing supernatural in the process of drying clothes - hot air is supplied to the drum, which is passed through the clothes and absorbs moisture. To condense moisture in the washing machine, a special tank is used, from which water then flows through the drain hose. To ensure uniform drying, the machine drum rotates at low speed alternately in both directions.

Washing machines with different types of loading - vertical or frontal - are equipped with a drying mode.

Features of drying different types of laundry

In most older washing machines, the drying function can be adjusted by only one parameter - drying time. Using a timer, you select the time during which the laundry will dry. Accordingly, the quality of the process will depend only on how accurately the user can select the drying time for a certain type of laundry. Owners of such washing machines will initially need to select the drying time for clothes experimentally until the optimal result is achieved.

FuzzyLogic technology

Modern washing machines provide the ability to dry clothes until a certain residual moisture is reached. . Technically, this process is much more complicated, but the result of such drying is much better. In washing machines equipped with this function, a thermometer sensor is installed at the bottom of the moisture condensation compartment. The Fuzzy Logic system, based on humidity and air temperature, determines the degree of humidity of things. At the moment when the humidity level matches the user-specified level, the drying process stops.

Also on the domestic market you can find improved units that can dry clothes, both until a certain degree of humidity is reached, and on a timer. Such devices provide several stages of drying, depending on the degree of humidity. Not all users understand the condition of laundry with a humidity level of 90%. Because of this, manufacturers are trying to replace dry numbers with more understandable terms ( "under the iron", “very dry”, “on a hanger”, “in the closet” etc.) . The best option is slightly damp underwear - when overdried, the fibers of the fabric become extremely fragile, which leads to rapid wear. In addition, wet laundry is easy to iron.

The latest models of washer-dryers have a sequential washing and drying cycle program - it turns out that the process can be carried out non-stop. You can use the program if you select it before starting the wash. It is worth considering that you can use this non-stop mode only when the machine is loaded to half the maximum permissible weight. So, for example, if a washing machine is designed for 7 kilograms of dry weight, you can load a maximum of 3.5 kg into it.

Some washing machine models have different drying modes depending on the type of fabric. Thus, for thin, delicate fabrics, gentle drying is intended, which is carried out at a lower temperature than usual.

For small loads of laundry, it is advisable to use the quick drying program, which lasts only 40 minutes. For all drying modes, except quick, you can use the “Soft” program, which prevents the laundry from wrinkling if it is not removed from the drum at the end of drying.

Some washer-dryers are equipped with a cooling function- at the end of the drying process, the drum makes several smooth revolutions in order to reduce the temperature of the laundry and prevent the formation of creases and deep folds. This regime can last up to four hours.

The latest models of washing machines have the functions of “hot” (for drying coarse fabrics) and “cold” drying (for drying delicate fabrics, synthetics).

Pros of washer dryers

- degree of reliability

There is a widespread belief among washing machine users that units equipped with dryers are less reliable than conventional machines. The main argument is that washing machines equipped with dryers are more likely to break down due to their more complex design. In fact, the main reason why a washing machine breaks down is improper operation by the user. So, in most cases, the cause of a washer-dryer breakdown is simple overload during drying, as users forget about the weight restrictions.

- compactness

Another positive side of the combined unit is its compactness. Separate washing machines and dryers will take up a lot of space and use more electricity than 2in1 machines.

- drying speed

For families with small children, a washing machine with a clothes drying function is a necessary item. It will allow you to wash and dry your laundry in a short time, regardless of the time of year. This function is also useful for people living in conditions of high humidity - near the sea, river or pond, when clothes take a very long time to dry.

- versatility

Thanks to the laundry drying function, you can wash pillows, down jackets, soft toys and blankets even in winter, without worrying about the quality of drying. According to many reviews from housewives, down jackets look like new after drying in a washing machine - the down does not clump together and holds its shape well. If you use the delicate mode, you can even dry washed sports shoes in this machine.

- reducing humidity in the apartment

After purchasing a combination washing machine, there is no need to hang wet clothes in the apartment, which increase the level of humidity.

Disadvantages of washing machines and dryers

- limited loading volume

One of the obvious disadvantages of drying clothes in a washing machine is the weight restrictions of the laundry. For example, if a machine is capable of washing about seven kilograms of laundry at a time, then drying it is half as much. This means that at maximum load, washed clothes will need to be dried in two stages, which entails additional energy consumption and wasted time.

In general, when buying a washing machine with a clothes drying function, you should keep in mind that they are less economical than conventional ones. The energy consumption class in such units does not rise above B. Class C and D devices can also be found on the market.

With the advent of newer models of washing machines, the maximum drying weight for clothes has increased. Thus, some Hotpoint-Ariston machines with a load of 7 kg are capable of drying up to 5 kg of laundry. At the moment, there is no washing machine with a drying function in which the permissible weight of laundry for washing is equal to the weight of drying.

- price

On average, a combination washing machine is 30% more expensive than a regular washing machine. If for someone such an amount is an impressive part of the family budget, you can think about the feasibility and necessity of an additional drying function.

- rapid wear and tear of things

If you use the drying mode incorrectly (drying out the laundry), you can cause your clothes to quickly fail.

Another drawback is the lack of an anti-dust filter, which is equipped with standard dryers.

Criteria for choosing a washer-dryer

Dryer

When purchasing a washing machine with a laundry drying function, you should take into account two parameters - the maximum weight of the laundry to be dried and the presence of drying based on residual moisture, and not just on a timer. If you use the device correctly and avoid overloading, it can last for many years.

It is most convenient to use a washer-dryer with a vertical loading type - if there is a need to add or remove laundry, it can be stopped at any stage of drying. Thus, you can dry different types of fabrics in one go, removing delicate ones a little earlier than others.

If funds and space in the apartment allow, it is better to buy a separate drying machine. As an independent unit, it copes better with its functions and allows you to dry the entire load of wet laundry in a short time.

Drying clothes in the washing machine is carried out in a special mode, after the end of the spin cycle. Washing machines with dryers are equipped with an additional heating element (heating element), which is used to heat the air forced into the washing machine by a fan through a special hole.

The process of drying clothes is very simple - hot air is supplied to the washing machine, the drum is constantly spinning so that the clothes dry evenly. The evaporated moisture is collected in a separate tank and exits through the drain hose.

Installation of an additional heating element and fan for a washing machine with dryer

The hot air temperature is adjustable and varies depending on the type of fabric. In different models of washing machines, drying is either given a certain time, or it continues until the laundry reaches a certain humidity. In the first case, the user will have to calculate and set the drying time for the laundry. In the second, the washing machine will do everything; all you need to do is set the required level of drying - from wet, suitable for ironing, to completely dry, after which things can be used immediately.

Features of drying in a washing machine

The iron drying program lasts approximately 40 minutes, depending on the brand of equipment. For drying, laundry can be loaded into the washing machine only to half the permissible volume, that is, if the washing machine allows you to wash 6 kg at a time, then it can only dry 3-4 kg. This introduces certain restrictions on the washing itself; a full tank of laundry will have to be dried in two stages.

Drying in a washing machine wears things out faster because the fabric gets hotter in some places and less in others. As a result, things become more fragile and wear out faster. Also, during drying, individual components of the washing machine exhaust their service life faster, the rubber becomes harder and more fragile.

In the drying mode, the washing machine's energy consumption increases, so for such washing machines in a house with old wiring, it is better to install a separate power supply line.

LG washing machines can dry clothes on a timer or until a certain humidity level is reached

Positive sides

The washing machine with dryer is convenient for washing down products - pillows, blankets, down jackets. After washing and drying, the fluff does not collect in a lump, unlike a conventional washing machine, it is almost impossible to achieve a similar effect in them. For those who have small children, having a drying mode will be very useful. In such machines you can wash and dry a large amount of laundry in a short time, regardless of the weather and air humidity.

Price

Washing machines with dryers cost on average 40-50% more than their counterparts without such a solution. Whether it's worth paying extra for such a feature is up to you to decide. Also, from our own experience, we can add that most people who bought a washing machine with dryer very rarely use it - drying takes a long time and the laundry can only be loaded at half the nominal load. For most people, it’s simply more convenient to hang out the well-wrung laundry themselves and wait until it dries. With modern spin technologies (up to 2000 rpm), laundry dries quickly enough.

Features of repair of washing and drying machines

Reading time: 4 minutes. Published 03/31/2019

The full cycle of caring for any textile item consists of 3 stages: washing, drying and ironing. And if everything is clear with the first and last, then the intermediate one still raises a lot of questions.

It’s easiest for owners of private houses: a few hours in a draft - and you can pick up an iron. Apartment residents have limited choices. Linen can be hung on the balcony or in the room - on heating radiators or
, increasing the humidity in the room.

Special drying machines will help solve the problem, but they take up quite a lot of space. An alternative can be a washing machine with dryer. This unit will dry even bulky bedding sets quite quickly. But in order to decide whether such equipment is needed on the farm, it is worth understanding all the intricacies.

Principle of operation

Such household appliances are a hybrid of a washing machine and a dryer. The device performs both functions well, but there are still some limitations due to the specific design.

The operating principle is simple. Behind the drum into which laundry items are loaded, there is a device (heating element) that heats and pumps warm air. It is applied to the laundry, where it helps moisture evaporate. During operation, the drum rotates and slightly shakes the textiles, which ensures uniform drying. As the moisture condenses, it is drained into a special reservoir.

That is, you can remove dry or slightly damp laundry from the washing machine, iron it if necessary and carefully lay it out on the shelves.

Drying types

Modern units of this type make it possible to optimize the drying process. The owner has the opportunity to customize the equipment in accordance with his own needs and requests. Regulation can be carried out according to one of the following criteria:

  1. By time. When loading laundry, you need to set a timer. After the time has elapsed, the unit will turn off. The main difficulty is that during operation the washing machine and dryer can either overdry things or leave them damp. Time is up - the process is terminated.
  2. By residual moisture. The function of adjusting the degree of drying is available in many modern units. The owner decides to what stage the items should be dried. He sets the program, and the machine executes it properly. This is especially convenient if you are drying wardrobe items that are difficult to iron when dry.

Some washer-dryers have adapted the humidity detection for better understanding. Instead of the conventional 3-5-10%, the owner will see simple and clear inscriptions: “in the closet”, “under the iron”, “very dry”.

Pros and cons of technology

Despite their apparent convenience, such units are not widely used. Housewives are increasingly concerned about the unreliability of such machines. Meanwhile, washing-drying machines have only a few disadvantages:

  1. Inability to dry the entire load of laundry. After the end of the washing cycle, some of the clean items will have to be transferred to the basin and after a while the drying function will have to be activated again. And this significantly increases energy consumption.
  2. Uneconomical. The energy saving class of such mixed units very rarely rises above “B”, while single-tasking washing machines with this class are practically no longer produced.

There are incommensurably more advantages:

  1. No need to dry clothes. There is no need to hang duvet covers around the house or install bulky prefabricated dryers.
  2. Economical compared to a tumble dryer. If you compare a two-in-one unit and a separate dryer, the choice will be in favor of the first.
  3. Does not require additional space. Which is especially important for owners of not too spacious houses.
  4. Save time. The owner of such equipment will not have to wait for his favorite outfit to dry.
  5. . This point is especially relevant for regions with special conditions.

Only after weighing all the advantages and disadvantages can you decide whether the drying function in a washing machine is needed and whether there is a need to purchase such a hybrid.

How to make the final choice

There are several other factors that help or hinder the purchasing decision:

  1. Unreliability. This is the kind of claim that service center technicians face. Hybrid machines are much more likely to fail than single-tasking machines. What's the problem? Often the reason is simple forgetfulness or carelessness of owners who do not divide wet laundry into lots. This approach significantly increases the load on the unit. Proper operation will ensure long-term and trouble-free operation.
  2. High price. A washing machine with a drying function always costs more than its single-tasking counterpart, by approximately 50%. But its purchase will cost less than a free-standing dryer. In this case, the savings will be obvious.

To make a final decision, it is worth delving into all the details. Find out how the drying function in a washing machine works and whether such an effect causes harm to the body. What advantages does the unit have? And, of course, soberly weigh whether a particular family needs such equipment with advanced functions.
