Washer dryers. Washer and dryer or separate dryer – which is better? Dryer and washing machine 2 in 1

Washing machines and dryers appeared on the Russian market a long time ago, but have not yet become particularly widespread - the vast majority of citizens still hang their laundry on lines and heating radiators the old-fashioned way. So is it worth abandoning the “grandmother’s” method and buying a washer-dryer unit?

Washer-dryer: do we need it?

When the laundry is washed and wrung out, it is time to dry it. As a rule, things are laid out in a basin, and then hung with clothespins on a structure intended for this purpose, be it a rope on the balcony or a folding drying rack. But what if you buy a washing machine with drying function?

Two in one

The main difference between a washer-dryer and a conventional monofunctional one is the additional heating element (heating element). The main heater, usually located in the lower part of the machine between the drum and the tank, serves to heat the water. The second is needed to heat the air, which is pumped into the tank of the car through a special air duct.

The principle of drying is simple: hot air, passing through wet laundry, absorbs moisture, which subsequently condenses in a container designed for this purpose. At this time, the drum of the machine rotates alternately in different directions at low speed - this contributes to more uniform drying.

Types of drying

In most washing-drying units, the drying function is still, albeit a pleasant, addition, so manufacturers pay the main attention to the quality of washing. So drying in many models is implemented extremely simply - using a timer. The user, to the best of his understanding and experience, sets the drying duration. Having worked for the allotted time, the machine turns off, and whether the laundry is dry or has been dry for a long time is none of its business.

Washer-dryer Ardo WD 80 L (RUB 12,500) dries only by time

However, every day more and more “advanced” units appear in stores, in which drying to a certain residual moisture is possible. Technically it is somewhat more complicated, but the result is usually much better. If the model provides this drying method, there is a thermometer sensor at the bottom of the moisture condenser. Based on air temperature and humidity, the “smart” Fuzzy Logic system (now found in almost every modern unit) determines the humidity of things. As soon as it matches the set value, drying stops.

The Bosch WVD 24520 EU combined unit (RUB 24,000) dries both by timer and to a certain degree of humidity

Machines of this type provide several degrees of drying in terms of humidity. Relieving the user of the need to indicate the desired humidity as a percentage, manufacturers strive to decipher dry numbers, selecting understandable equivalents (“very dry”, “under the iron”, “in the closet”). It is best for the laundry to remain slightly damp after washing: overdried fabric fibers become brittle and things wear out faster, and ironing a slightly damp fabric is always easier.

Dry weight

Combined washing-drying machines have one drawback - in the drying mode they are capable of efficiently processing no more than half of the total capacity of the unit. For example, the Electrolux EWW 16781 W model washes up to seven kilograms of laundry at a time, and dries no more than three and a half (meaning, of course, “dry” weight). As a rule, a “large wash” involves a maximum load on the machine, which means that it will have to be dried in two stages - which means additional time and energy consumption. By the way, washing machines with dryers are generally less economical than conventional ones: the energy consumption class does not rise above B, and there are units of classes C and D that have long been unthinkable for washing machines.

Washing and drying machine Electrolux EWW 16781 W (RUB 29,000) washes 7 kg of laundry, dries 3.5 kg

Manufacturers, naturally, are aware of the problem of capacity of washing and drying machines, and are doing everything possible to correct the situation. Some things even work out. A good example is the Hotpoint-Ariston ARMXX D 129 model. It is capable of washing up to 7 kg of laundry and drying up to 5 kg (depending on the type of fabric, of course). This is already a big step forward. But will the “drying” load ever reach the value of “washing”? Manufacturers are still answering vaguely, saying, “we are working on it.”

Xotpoint-Ariston ARMXXD 129 (RUB 19,000) already dries 5 kg of laundry (washes 7 kg)

Reliable - unreliable?

There is an opinion that washing machines and dryers are generally less reliable than conventional units. Supporters of this point of view argue that drying units break down more often because they are technically more complex than simple washing machines. The statement is logical at first glance, but it would still be strange if manufacturers supplied the market with obviously unreliable devices.

The result of consultations on this issue with repairmen of such equipment from several metropolitan companies turned out to be interesting, although far from unexpected. All the experts we interviewed agreed: the main reason for breakdowns of any equipment, including drying machines, is improper handling by users. It is non-compliance with the rules of use and neglect of the recommendations from the operating manual of the device that lead to disastrous consequences. For example, washing and drying machines most often “burn” precisely because of overload during drying - the owners forget that all washed laundry cannot be dried at once.

To take or not to take?

And yet, the answer to the question of whether it is worth buying a washing machine and dryer exists, although it is not unambiguous. And it sounds like this: if living space allows, it is better to purchase a separate drying machine. In terms of dimensions, it is close to a washing machine (there are full-size and narrow models) and is capable of drying approximately the same amount of laundry as it can wash. So the things that have been wrung out in the washing machine can only be transferred to the dryer. By the way, monofunctional units always have more programs than combined units. The disadvantages of this solution include spatial and financial factors - two devices take up twice as much space as one, and cost approximately twice as much: a high-quality middle-class dryer (for example, Bosch WTE-86302BY or Gorenje D 65225) costs less cheaper than a good washing machine.

Well, if you want to save space (or money), but are no longer in the mood to hang laundry around the apartment, a washer-dryer will be a good way out. The cost of a washing-drying machine starts from 15 thousand rubles, which is on average one and a half times more expensive than a solo machine. The main “drying” criteria for choosing a model are the presence of “smart” drying based on residual moisture (and not just a timer) and the maximum weight of the laundry being dried. The main thing is not to subsequently neglect the recommendations of the instructions: since it says that “the load when drying is up to 3 kg,” then so be it. And if you don’t rush and don’t be greedy, a good combined unit, with all its complexity, will serve its owners faithfully for many years.

It is difficult to answer this question unambiguously. If we talk specifically about the quality of the washing and drying process and its final result, then two separate monofunctional devices will do a better job than one washer-dryer.

But it is quite possible that in your case, the best option will be in favor of a washing machine with a drying function.

We need to be more specific: which function is more important to you and how much laundry are you going to wash and dry? After all, to serve one person, it may be enough to have one washer-dryer, the so-called “two in one”. If there are at least three people in the family, then the amount of work increases three times. In this case, it is better to have two separate devices.

And now some details about each type of technology:

Washer dryer

A washer-dryer is a technique that can start washing clothes and then dry them. At first glance, it seems, what could be better? This is a great option for pragmatic people. But there are some points that make this issue controversial.

A washer-dryer differs from a conventional washing machine in that in addition to the main heating element for heating water, it has another, additional heating element for heating air.

The process of heating air in these devices, unfortunately, is always more energy-consuming compared to heating water. Most washing machines (without drying function) are energy efficient class A; A+; A++; A+++. But drying machines usually have classes B and C.

Despite the considerable energy costs, the drying process in these devices is still less comfortable and of less quality compared to the same process in separate drying machines.

Manufacturers of washing machines with dryers pay more attention to washing, since it is believed that this is their main function. Drying clothes is just an additional option here. Therefore, the choice of drying mode is usually limited.

Drying in many devices is implemented mainly simply - using a timer. This is not very convenient, since you choose the drying time at your own discretion (approximately). This means that there is always a risk of not guessing correctly and over-drying or not drying the laundry. But this is not the main drawback of these machines.

In addition, manufacturers of washing household appliances are actively working in this direction, and more and more models are appearing on the market that provide drying based on residual moisture.

And the main disadvantage of washing machines with dryers is the discrepancy in the amount of laundry when performing two different functions. For example: for washing, you can load 7 kilograms of dry laundry into a drum, but you can dry only half of this washed laundry in the same drum, that is, 3.5 kg. This means that washed clothes have to be divided into two portions and dried in two steps.

If you want the process to be non-stop, then you need to limit the amount of laundry in advance and load only half of the maximum load into the machine drum. This is not economical, but there is no other way. Neglecting this rule can lead to equipment breakdowns.

There is an opinion that multifunctional equipment is very complex and therefore less reliable. This seems to be the case. But home appliance repair specialists say that washing machines most often fail due to the fault of the users. Namely: due to overload of the drum when drying clothes.

Clothes dryers

Dryers are specifically designed only for drying clothes and therefore cope with this task much better. In dryers, specialized drums are of particular importance.

Firstly: the drum chamber of drying appliances is 2.5 times larger than that of washing machines. After all, drying, unlike washing, requires more space.

Secondly: the drum, designed for high-quality drying of clothes, has its own tricks and nuances that cannot be found in washing machines.

Here everything is subordinated to one goal: high-quality drying does not involve knocking the laundry into a lump, but, on the contrary, smoothing out all the wrinkles, airing it out, knocking out the remnants of the detergent, filling things with air and freshness.

By choosing a model with the required capacity, you will have the opportunity to dry the entire portion of washed laundry without unnecessary hassle. In addition, the presence of different modes and additional functions in a dryer is always greater than in combined appliances.

And special devices, which are usually included with many models, will allow you to dry not only laundry, but also many other things. For example: some types of shoes, textile bags, soft toys, down jackets, many items made of delicate fabrics that require very careful handling when drying, etc. It is unlikely that a washing machine with a drying function can provide you with all this.

If you are interested in high-quality drying of various things (not just laundry), then you need an automatic drying machine, and not a two-in-one symbiosis.

Purchasing a separate washing machine and a separate drying machine will, of course, take up more space in the apartment and cost more.

The conclusion is this: if your goal is to save money and space, then a washing machine with a drying function will be just right.

But, in all other respects, a washing machine and dryer is clearly inferior to two separate independent appliances. It's up to you to decide what is more important - the financial factor or comfort.

Manufacturers of household appliances are trying to make life as simple as possible for modern housewives. For example, a washer-dryer is convenient for those who live in a metropolitan apartment and are constantly busy with business. However, before you buy such a model, you should find out the features, main pros and cons.

How does tumble drying work?

If an automatic machine is currently present in almost every home, then a washing machine with dryer is less common. Some housewives do not know how such equipment functions. The device is a hybrid of a washing machine and dryer. The equipment copes with both functions, but its operating principle is different. A washing machine and clothes dryer have 4 or 5 cycles instead of 3. Behind the drum of the device there is a heating element that heats and blows air onto the laundry. Due to this, moisture evaporates. The liquid condenses and collects in a tank or drain.

The equipment may have special programs, for example:

  • humidity sensor;
  • imbalance control;
  • foam level control;

How to choose a washer dryer

In the catalogs of online stores or the assortment of hypermarkets, the washing machine and dryer should be selected taking into account the standard parameters for a conventional machine:

  • design;
  • energy consumption class;
  • manufacturer;
  • washing efficiency class;
  • tank material;
  • loading type (vertical, frontal);
  • spin efficiency class;
  • noise level;
  • capacity;
  • rotational speed;
  • type of motor, etc.

However, to choose a washing machine with dryer, you need to pay attention to the following characteristics:

  1. Installation method (built-in or free-standing). For apartments with a small bathroom, the first option is preferable.
  2. Drum features. You should pay special attention to this detail if you plan to use equipment for drying large items (blankets or pillows).
  3. Material (plastic, stainless steel). Metal appliances are more expensive.
  4. Number of programs. As a rule, 8 for washing and 3 for drying are enough for all housewives. However, if you have a variety of fabrics in your wardrobe, as well as families with children, you should choose more functional models.
  5. Method of removing liquid from the drum (condensation tank, sewer). In the second case, you will not have to constantly empty the water collection container. However, if it is impossible to connect to the sewer, then the first option is preferable.
  6. Activation of drying mode (manual, automatic). If you plan to dry not only washed clothes, but also other things using equipment, then it is worth considering the second option.

So, a washer-dryer. Its main advantage is the ability to both wash and dry things. Everything is done by one device, not two (as is the case with a washing machine and dryer). Space is saved in the apartment. Perhaps this is the only (albeit important) advantage of the washer-dryer. The main disadvantage is the discrepancy between the amount of laundry washed and dried. That is, after washing, in most cases the user must remove some items from the machine and only then activate the drying of the remaining items in the drum. The fact is that for high-quality drying in a reasonable time, you need more space in the drum of the machine than is obtained when it is fully loaded for the initial wash. If the full washing load of a washer-dryer is, for example, 6 kg, then it can dry about 3-4 kg of clothes after washing. This is why the drums of individual dryers are always larger than the drums of washing machines. Therefore, a washing-drying machine, so that it can really be an assistant in the house, so that all the potential put into it by the manufacturer is revealed, is a good solution for bachelors, for small families (consisting of two people; it may no longer be able to cope with the clothes of three - it will have to be dried in several cycles), where there is not a lot of washing and often the washing machine is not loaded to capacity. Plus, don’t forget about saving space: a washing-drying machine is definitely recommended for a small family in a small apartment.

We also note that the drying process in a washer-dryer (air heating) is more energy-intensive than the washing process (water heating), therefore the energy efficiency class of most washer-dryers presented in stores is B or C, while “just” washing machines are all class A, or even A+, A++ (details about the energy efficiency classes of household washing and drying machines are below) At the same time, naturally, if you use only the “wash” function, then the energy consumption will correspond, including in the reviewed models, to the current standards for washing machines. But why buy a washer-dryer in the case of “wash only”? Another point is the duration of the process. Washing and drying, of course, takes more time than just washing. However, this is not such a big minus, in our opinion.

By the way, in many models of washing-drying machines (including all included in the review) the possibility of a sequential washing and drying cycle is implemented, when the process occurs non-stop (there is no need to turn on the dryer separately after washing) and is programmed at the initial stage - before the start of washing. However, in this case there is always a clear limit on the weight of the items loaded (including for washing) - usually this is half or a little more of the usual maximum load of the machine in the case of washing only.

* - Energy efficiency indicator is based on washing and drying. If you only use washing, the energy consumption is lower (see special sidebar).

*** - Washer-dryer Samsung Eco-bubble W.D.1142 XVRdiffers from other models included in the review in dimensions (it is larger) and cost (significantly more expensive). She was included in the review based on the results of a vote by portal visitorsHi- Tech. Mail. ru, and also due to the current lack of other models of this well-known manufacturer of this type of devices in Russia.

Design

Below, of course, we will talk more about the technical characteristics and functionality of the sextet of washing and drying machines presented in the review. In the same segment - about appearance. Let us immediately note that the five washer-dryers in the context of design (and not only) should be considered separately from the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR. This is an expensive model (prices for all reviewed models are in the summary table above) - an attempt by the Korean manufacturer to gain a foothold in the premium price range in this segment of household appliances. Consequently, the Koreans, as they say, “invested” in the car - they made it a beauty. Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR is a rich red color, the manufacturer calls this color Tango, the color is unusual for this type of technology. Juicy red (slightly metallic) is combined with metal-look front trim elements, a large sunroof (made to look like chrome), and a glossy metal rotary programmer in the center of the control panel. Overall, the model looks very impressive, definitely more impressive than all the others included in the review. But, as already noted, this does not give this model additional “points” due to the frankly different price categories with the rest of the quintet (as of today, Samsung Electronics does not have more affordable washing and drying machines in Russia). In addition, as already noted, it is larger in size than the other reviewed models (see the table at the beginning of the review). We just appreciated the appearance of the device - it objectively attracts attention more than other models. Is not it?

Bosch WVD24460OE. Outwardly, she is a typical German Frau of the strictest rules. A classic example of technology from BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH. This is the case when minimalism rules the roost. When, if not a complete absence, then almost an absence of design, that is design. This is a model about which you cannot say that she is ugly. But you can’t call her beautiful either. The car is white. The dominant feature of the control panel is the display with functional silver TouchControl touch buttons underneath it. Or rather, these are not buttons in their classical sense - you don’t need to press them, you just need to touch them. But they look like classic buttons. Therefore, if you don’t know that they are touch sensitive, when you touch them, you try to press them. Can't click. At first it will definitely be a little annoying. The luminous symbols on the display will, of course, enliven the appearance of the model. The overall impression is rather pleasant. Modest, but tasteful - this is a banal, but quite suitable definition for the appearance of the Bosch WVD24460OE.

Siemens WD 14H441 washer-dryer, related to the previous model. In principle, Siemens equipment in the price context is positioned by BSH as upper-level equipment in the middle price segment. This, of course, was reflected in the design, a little less than we would like, but still. The dominant feature - a silver loading hatch with a black insert - looks restrained and impressive. The black hatch insert echoes the large (and black when off) display. Below the display are functional buttons of silver color (again made as buttons, but not pressed - touch sensitive), on the left there is a silver rotary programmer. A little less modest and, in general, also tasteful. But it's a bit boring.

LG F1496AD3. This South Korean manufacturer has long moved away from the disco-like abundance of “light bulbs” on the control panels of its washing machines and washer-dryers (there was such a period). The design, at first glance, is quite ascetic - a restrained combination of white and chrome (plastic elements, for example, the edging of the loading hatch, are painted to resemble metal). A dark (when turned off) rectangular display area with function buttons integrated into it is on the right side of the control panel. Below it, other functional buttons are silver. On the left is a rotary programmer (painted like metal). And here there is a small “trick” that apparently came from “disco” times - the programmer is framed by an indicator on which the process of selecting a program is accompanied by the orange light indication moving in a circle (indicating the selected program) - in active mode it greatly refreshes the overall design - picture. In general, the design can be classified as classic - for many interiors.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) and Zanussi ZKG2125 - although the brands belong to different manufacturers, both have Italian roots. And it's noticeable. Both cars are relatively inexpensive, which is also noticeable in their design. Italians often do this - the poorer we are, the merrier. Here it is: it seems nothing special in appearance, but somehow funny. The Indesit machine has these rotary controls for the water temperature during washing and selection of the drying program, as well as the main rotary programmer - made with such funny “pimples” (forgive the word). Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) does not have a display. But the Zanussi ZKG2125 has it, only a very small one - in the right corner of the control panel. What also stands out here is the rotary programmer, which, in symbiosis with the pictograms printed around it, looks a little pretentious in Italian, but thereby saves this budget unit from the dull appearance of the economy class. Between the programmer and the display there are round, tactile functional buttons and a bunch of light indications of the selected options and entered settings. Despite the absence of any striking design features, Indesit and Zanussi cars look decent on a budget.

Washing, spinning, energy efficiency classes

In the characteristics of any washer-dryer, washing, spinning, and energy efficiency classes play an important role (all of them are indicated in the table at the beginning of the review). They are marked with the same Latin letters - from A to G - but they mean completely different things. The washing class indicates its quality (the laundry is washed in a cotton washing cycle, without pre-washing, in water heated to 60°C), and how clean the washed laundry will ultimately be (EU directives provide for certain standards). In the context of washing, the markings F and G are the worst quality, C, D and E are average, the letters A and B indicate careful treatment of fabrics and excellent washing quality. Currently, only washing machines with washing class A are sold in stores. Washing class A is also assigned to all washing and drying machines included in the review.

The same letters indicate spin classes. The award of a particular spin class depends on the residual moisture content of the laundry after spinning it in a standard cycle at the maximum declared speed. Dry laundry is weighed before washing, then, after washing, the wrung out (wet) laundry is weighed. Subtract the weight of dry laundry from the weight of wet laundry. The difference should be divided - again by the weight of dry laundry. Then the quotient is multiplied by 100% - done. The residual humidity of laundry in a washing machine with spin class A should not exceed 45%. Class B spin implies a residual humidity of up to 54%, C - up to 63, and D - up to 72%. Currently, stores mainly sell washing-dryers and washing machines with spin classes from A to C. The maximum number of drum revolutions during spinning in a washing machine, naturally, affects the final spin result - the residual moisture content of the laundry, but does not the determining indicator for awarding the spin class of a particular model.

The energy efficiency class of washing and drying machines is also indicated by the Latin letters mentioned above. The letter designation indicates the amount of electricity consumed during a certain standard operating cycle. For example, to calculate the energy efficiency class of washing machines, a wash cycle for cotton items (without prewash) at a water temperature of 60 °C with the maximum declared weight of laundry (maximum possible load) is used. The energy efficiency index is determined in kW/hour per kilogram of laundry. For washing machines and dryers, the energy efficiency class is determined by the results of using the drying cycle (as the more energy-intensive part of laundry processing) of cotton items at the maximum declared load of laundry. The energy efficiency index is determined in kW/hour per kilogram of items. For your convenience, we provide a current table of energy efficiency of washing machines.

Note that without using a dryer, washer-dryers consume less electricity. Usually their energy efficiency class is A or even A+, A++. However, the “plus sign” label has not yet been officially approved by the EU Energy and Transport Commission. Therefore, “correct” manufacturers are increasingly using labels A-10%, A-20%, etc., which are more understandable to the user and do not violate the relevant EU standards. Here is a table of the energy efficiency of washing machines. With its help, if necessary, you can calculate the energy consumption of the washer-dryer for “washing only” (if marked A-**%).

It must also be said that at present the probability of finding in a store a washer-dryer with an energy efficiency class below C, and a washing machine with a class below B, is very small.

Functionality in washing mode

We are considering washing-drying machines, that is, washing comes first in the name of the appliances. Drying is an auxiliary function (despite this, we will consider it in detail below). So let’s begin a close acquaintance with the models included in the review with their “washing capabilities”.

The main washing feature of the Samsung WD1142XVR is the Eco Bubble washing technology. The idea is that the detergent is mixed with water, foam (air bubbles) is generated - but all this happens before the wash starts. The ready-made detergent foam composition is supplied to the laundry. The manufacturer claims that air washing foam penetrates the fabric faster and is distributed evenly over it - improving the quality of washing. Note that Eco Bubble washing is available with most washing programs and is activated by default. In some washing cycles, it can be turned off. In general, the washing “software” here is at its best: multi-temperature washing of cotton, synthetics, washing program for woolen items, washing of bed linen, sports items, children's items, quick wash, economical (long, at low water temperature), low wash amount of water, intense. There is a “Rinse and Spin” mode. You can prescribe additional rinses (up to five cycles). There is auto-weighing and, based on its results, optimization of washing parameters. Spin - up to 1200 rpm (variable intensity, can be turned off). There is a washing drum cleaning mode (without detergents). By the way, the drum here is a branded “Samsung” Diamond Drum - the size of the water holes is 36% smaller than the size of the holes in the drums of conventional washing machines (Samsung, presumably), the special structure of the drum surface promotes rapid wetting, minimizing the risk of damage to the fabric during washing. Drum with backlight (comfortable loading and unloading). One cannot fail to mention the “Dry Wash” technology - this is “washing” without water, without detergents, using a powerful stream of hot air. This is how the “Odor Removal” and “Sterilization” modes work (their temperature settings are different and cannot be changed). The Samsung WD1142XVR washing machine implements the construction of a washing cycle depending on the weight and type of laundry being washed. The machine determines the weight of the laundry itself (auto-weighing, intelligent washing control system), while the type (washing program) is set by the user. Based on these data, the machine compiles a washing algorithm, calculates water consumption, and the duration of various stages of washing.

Bosch WVD24460OE. A model without auto-weighing of loaded laundry and formation of a washing “scenario” based on load data. But, in general, everything here with washing is quite decent. There are enough washing programs to wash a lot of things: multi-temperature cycles for washing cotton (including pre-wash for very dirty items), multi-temperature cycles for synthetics, woolen items, children's items, sportswear, dark items that do not require special care (program " Intensive"), a program for items made of mixed fabrics, a super-fast fifteen-minute wash (the washing temperature is always user-adjustable, but there are hardware temperature limits - specific for each cycle). It is possible to activate an additional rinse or use the “Rinse” mode separately. Spin with variable intensity and complete shutdown - up to 1200 rpm. There is a “Night” washing cycle (for example, for cases when the house uses an electricity meter that takes into account its different tariffs depending on the time of day) - with a reduced spin intensity and a deactivated sound signal for the end of the wash. Here the drum has a special design - with perforated metal grips: the laundry not only “bathes”, but also “takes a shower”. This, the manufacturer assures, allows you to reduce costs (electricity, water, detergent) - things are moistened faster, the washing solution penetrates into them faster, and also achieve high quality washing.

Siemens WD14H441. There are multi-temperature cycles for cotton items (the temperature is set by the user), an economical cotton cycle, there is a wash for synthetics, items made from mixed fabrics, a program for washing wool, fine linen (silk), there is a fifteen-minute super-fast wash, a mode for washing shirts (from different fabrics that do not require ironing), the “Impregnation” program for sports items, items with a climate membrane, functional items, waterproof items (followed by impregnation with a special composition that maintains the properties of clothing). In most wash cycles, the user is free to change the temperature settings, within certain limits. There is a mode for refreshing things, eliminating odors - clothes are simply well ventilated (loading - up to 1 kg). Let us note the presence here of the branded VarioSoft washing drum - there are drop-shaped protrusions on its surface, the grips are asymmetrical, have steep and flat sides - depending on the direction of rotation of the drum, things are subjected to strong or gentle mechanical action (especially gentle or intensive washing, depending on the program) . There is no auto-weighing or construction of washing cycles based on load level data.

Washer-dryer LG F1496AD3. The washing programs are quite sufficient to keep things clean. There are multi-temperature cotton cycles, a cycle for woolen items (also a cycle for items made from fabrics for which hand washing is recommended), a “Everyday Wash” cycle (also a cycle for synthetics), special cycles for washing sportswear and children’s clothing (with temperatures up to 95ºС). There is a thirty-minute cycle - for quickly washing lightly soiled items. Special mode “Intensive 60” - an hour cycle for cotton or mixed items with an average degree of soil. Each cycle has its own loading parameters (see operating manual), as well as the ability, within certain limits, to change the water temperature. Let us also mention the 6 Motion technology implemented here (“Six movements of care”) - drum rotation algorithms specially developed by LG Electronics specialists for different programs, and therefore different things, fabrics: “Reverse rotation”, “Saturation”, “Wiggle”, “Twisting” ", "Smoothing", "Basic rotation". In short, the point is that each washing program integrates certain rotation algorithms that are optimal for obtaining high-quality washing results - the user only needs to select a program, and the machine itself “knows” how to rotate the drum correctly (hello, Leonid Arkadyevich!). I wonder what singer Valeria likes more - “Wiggle” or “Basic Spin”? Spin with variable intensity and shutdown - up to 1400 rpm. Separate “Rinse and Spin” cycle.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU). Despite the fact that this washer-dryer is presented in the budget price segment, it has everything for high-quality washing. Cotton multi-temperature cycles (including pre-wash option for very dirty items), separate cycle for colored cottons, synthetics cycle, wool program, delicates program (silk, viscose, etc.), Jeans mode - for denim clothes, Sport Light mode - for washing not very dirty sportswear, socks, Sport Shoes cycle - for fabric shoes. You can prescribe an additional rinse. There are quite a sufficient number of programs for high-quality washing. There are a number of additional options: EcoTime - optimization of washing parameters for a reduced load of cotton and synthetic items, "Easy Ironing" - to reduce the number of folds and creases in the laundry at the end of washing. There is a delay start timer for 3, 6 and 9 hours. Spin with variable intensity, but only two positions: 500 and 1000 rpm. The spin cannot be turned off (it’s just that in some washing cycles the machine stops with water, and then the user can choose to drain the water without spinning or start spinning, depending on the type of items being washed) - a typical solution for budget models. Since the model is budget, there is no intelligent washing control system (calculating water consumption, washing time depending on the weight of the laundry, type of fabric, degree of soiling of things). However, this does not affect the final result, directly the quality of washing; the washing here is class A.

Zanussi ZKG2125. Another budget item in our review. But, we repeat, today a budget washing (washing-drying) machine does not mean a bad washing machine. With washing programming, everything is quite adequate here: as always, multi-temperature cotton cycles (the temperature is selected by the user, there is a pre-wash), there is a cycle for synthetics (only forty-degree water), a special washing cycle taking into account subsequent ironing (additional rinse, gentle spin), economical cycle for cotton or synthetic items, for various delicate fabrics, “Hand Wash” mode, cycles for denim and sportswear. You can assign an additional rinse to most programs, and you can activate rinse and spin separately. Spin with variable intensity (up to 1200 rpm) and with the ability to turn off. There is a timer for delaying the start of washing. A normal set of programs - there is everything for washing most commonly washed items. There is only no intelligent washing control system - washing parameters are standard (water consumption, time, washing cycle algorithm), set at the production stage of the machine and unchangeable depending, for example, on the degree of loading of the machine.

Drying technology

Drying in washer-dryers occurs due to an additional heating element, which heats not the water, but the air, which, thanks to the fan, passes through the air duct into the tank. Drying occurs due to the supply of hot air to the laundry located in a rotating (usually reversible) drum. Further, the air passing through the items being processed has two paths - depending on the type of drying implemented in the specific model of the washing-drying machine.

Drying in the washing-drying machines presented here is technologically different. Most of the models included in the review (and in general, washing and drying machines currently presented in stores) - all except the Siemens model - offer the user so-called condensation drying. In simple words, at the moment of drying in the machine, this is what happens: warm air, saturated with moisture from the laundry (which was previously driven through the heating element by a fan), passes through a condenser, in which cold water is used to dry the incoming air (moisture condensation). Here the air gives off moisture and heat and returns, dried, to the drum with the laundry (again through a fan and heater). Moisture from the condenser is discharged into the sewer. Since cold water is used in the condenser to condense moisture from the air, the total water consumption during the washing and drying process is greater.

In the Siemens WD 14H441 washer-dryer, drying is also condensation, but water is not used during the drying process. The fan drives air through the heating element, and the heated air removes moisture from the laundry. Hot humid air enters the condenser, which is cooled by air from the apartment (there is another fan for this; it draws this air at room temperature into the machine). The dry air then returns to the heating element again, passing through the main fan, and then again enters the drum. The air condenser acts as a heat and moisture exchanger. The moisture from it then goes into the sewer. In this case, the water consumption of the machine is reduced - savings, however.

But that's not all. Drying also depends on time and to a certain degree of residual moisture. In the first case, the user usually selects the type of fabric (for example, cotton or synthetic) and sets the drying time himself - depending on the capabilities of the specific model of washer-dryer (usually a maximum of 180 minutes). In the second case, by selecting the type of fabric, the user also selects the desired degree of drying. Usually this is drying “Under the iron” - for things that then need to be ironed (residual moisture in this case softens the folds, making ironing easier), drying “On a hanger” (for things that remain slightly damp, but less damp than after spinning , can “hang” in case of any light wrinkles that do not need complete drying), drying “In the closet” - for things that must be completely dry (immediately put away for storage in the closet).

Drying to a certain degree of residual moisture is possible thanks to temperature sensors that measure the temperature of the moist air entering the condenser or leaving the machine and the temperature of the dry air directly in the washer-dryer. Based on these data, the degree of humidity of the “exhaust” air is determined, the data obtained is compared with the indicators that should be at the user-specified degree of humidity of things. When these values coincide, the drying process stops. Just a few years ago, drying based on residual moisture was the “privilege” of premium models, but now it is available in almost all washing and drying machines. This includes implementation in all models reviewed here, as well as timed drying (nowadays the norm is two types of drying in one washer-dryer).

Functionality of drying modes

Next, we will talk directly about the drying capabilities of each of the washing and drying machines presented in the review. Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR has automatic drying (to a certain degree of humidity) and time-based drying. In the first case, you can select “Closet” and “Iron” drying, and also activate gentle drying at a lower temperature (for items made of thin, so-called “delicate” fabrics). There is a special fast drying mode - for a small number of things (a couple of towels and shirts), lasts 40 minutes. For all automatic drying programs, except the last one, the activation of the “Soft” mode is relevant - so that the laundry does not wrinkle if it is not taken out of the machine immediately after drying (lasts 31 minutes, of course, it can be interrupted at any time). You can also activate timed drying, dry for 30, 50, 60, 90, 120 or 150 minutes - depending on the type of fabric, humidity, and number of items.

Bosch WVD24460OE. There are drying programs up to a certain residual moisture: “Intensive” and “Gentle”. They differ in temperature indicators during the process and are intended for different types of things. A “symbiosis of dryers” is available - you can set preliminary drying settings by humidity and time: automatic drying plus an additional 5 to 20 minutes of drying (in 5-minute increments). There is also a separate drying by time (the programs indicated above with different temperature conditions are also activated, the user simply sets the drying time himself). The maximum drying time that can be set is 120 minutes.

Siemens WD 14H441. Here, as in any modern washer-dryer, there is drying to a certain degree of residual moisture and time. Moreover, functionally everything is approximately the same as the Bosch model, which is not surprising - it is from the same manufacturer. There are also multi-temperature “Intensive” and “Gentle” drying programs to residual moisture, they can also be activated in “manual” mode - by independently setting the drying time depending on the type of fabric, needs (for ironing, in a closet, etc.) .

LG F1496AD3. Drying to a certain degree of humidity and time. Automatic drying programs: “Iron”, “Closet”, “Low temperature” (especially gentle) - programs for different things, different types of fabric. There is also an “Eco-drying” cycle - this is how the manufacturer beautifully called drying by time (30, 60, 90, 120 or 150 minutes). The maximum possible load depends on the selected drying time (information is in the instruction manual). At the end of drying, if the user does not unload the machine (does not open the hatch), it automatically switches to the “Cooling” mode - the drum sometimes makes several revolutions to minimize creasing of things (the formation of deep folds, creases). This mode lasts four hours (can be interrupted at any time), then the machine turns off.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU). Drying to a certain degree of residual moisture and time. By humidity: cycles “In the closet”, “On the hanger”, “Under the iron” - depending on the specific needs, type of things, fabric. By time: 40, 60, 100 or 180 minutes. A step of 40 minutes after an hour of drying is perhaps too long; the user may encounter problems, especially at the beginning of use: under-dried or over-dried items. But here, even despite the lack of a display, everything is very easy and clear - there is a separate rotary programmer for drying programs. Simply select the desired mode with one turn and press “on.”

Zanussi ZKG2125. No fundamental differences. There is drying to a certain degree of residual moisture, and there is drying over time. Automatic drying based on humidity - the “Iron” and “Closet” programs imply different loading levels for different items and types of fabrics (the user selects “Cotton” or “Synthetics”, detailed information is in the accompanying documents of the machine). Also different temperature conditions (automatic setting). You can also select the desired drying time (timed drying) by pressing the “Drying” button on the control panel.

If this were a review of washing machines, then we could simply indicate the loading indicators in the summary table of characteristics. But for washer-dryers, it is logical to pay special attention to loading. So, the champion here is Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR. But, again, it does not participate in the main competition, because its dimensions differ from the standard ones that are relevant for the other models in the review (“regular” sizes: height - 80-85 cm, width and depth about 60 cm) - it is larger in size ( see summary table above). Therefore, in terms of loading, it has no equal among the reviewed models. It can wash up to 14 kg of clothes at a time, and dry up to 7 kg. As you can see, all the same, with a washing load, more than half of the clothes will have to be laid out. In case of adequate load (up to 7 kg), you can activate a non-stop washing-drying cycle - without a pause between these two processes.

The remaining washer-dryers have standard dimensions for such devices (smaller than a Samsung machine), and therefore have less capacity. The Bosch WVD24460OE washes up to 5 kg and dries up to 2.5 (not enough by modern standards), there is also a combined cycle (at the same time, even for washing, you need to load no more than 2.5 kg of clothes). Siemens WD14H441 washes up to 7 kg of clothes, and dries up to 4 kg, and there is a combined washing and drying cycle; if it is activated, you can wash no more than 4 kg of things. LG F1496AD3 washes up to 8 kg and dries up to 4 kg, you can wash and dry 4 kg of clothes at once. Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU) - washing 6 kg, and drying load according to the manufacturer's information - up to 5 kg. The ratio of indicators is quite unusual for such devices - only a little less clothes are dried than washed (usually half or a little more is dried). Questions arise about the quality of drying (after all, in order to dry well, things need a spacious drum, but here it is “ordinary”). Let us note that the Indesit machine has a special Wash&Dry cycle - this is a combined washing cycle (in thirty-degree water) and drying, but it is specific here: it lasts only 40 minutes and is designed to process 0.5 kg of items. If you want to quickly freshen and dry a couple of T-shirts, this cycle is suitable. Zanussi ZKG2125 - “washing” load up to 6 kg, “drying” load up to 4 kg (this information is on the manufacturer’s website, but the instruction manual says about 3 kg of cotton items and 2 kg of synthetics). Here you can wash and dry non-stop, again, observing loading standards and still relying on the instruction manual.

Cuff and cuvette, leakage protection

Before we sum it up, a couple more points. The first one is “rubber”. We are talking about such an unremarkable (especially for a potential buyer in a store, whose eyes run wild from the abundance of models, and his ears are busy with the sweet speeches of sales assistants) details, like the hatch door seal. It is made of rubber for washing and drying machines and serves to seal the washing process. However, it is designed in such a way that it usually has some depression in the middle part, a cavity, if you like. And water usually accumulates there. It accumulates if its evacuation from there is not organized correctly - the drain holes are not located where they should be. But water in the hatch cuff is wrong. These are germs with bacteria, this is unnecessary moisture. At one time, some problems in this sense were observed with some Indesit models. Let’s look at what the IWDC 6105 (EU) has “with holes” - to be honest, it doesn’t look very good. One hole, and even then it’s kind of, let’s say, inexpressive, half covered by the same rubber cuff. We don't like this approach.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU)

Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR has three drain holes; fortunately, they are not blocked by anything and, in general, are in the right place (in terms of level). Bosch WVD24460OE and Siemens WD14H441 - these models have three neat holes for draining the “cuff” water. But Siemens has them a little lower, which is a little better. The LG F1496AD3 has three drain holes, one of which is generally located “at the bottom” of the cuff - logical and correct. The Zanussi ZKG2125 generally has a lot of drain holes, they are located in such a way that water should fall into them itself - the part where it usually collects has a slight slope towards the holes.

The cuvettes for detergents and rinse aids (softeners) are removable in all washing and drying machines reviewed. This is correct - the cuvette should be thoroughly washed and wiped dry at some intervals - to avoid the formation of mold, as well as the cavity into which it is inserted. In a “fixed” case, quality care is difficult. It is also good if the cuvette has removable elements (usually a limiter in the rinse aid container). The reviewed models are also good with this - everything that is needed can be removed.

Protection against leaks and its presence is a factor that plays an important role in the quality of operation of the washing-drying machine. Technology is technology - it sometimes breaks. It is important that no breakdowns lead to flooding of the room where the machine is installed or the neighbors below. The point is that special sensors monitor the integrity of the water supply and drainage system. In case of problems (leaks), the water supply to the washing machine will be stopped, thanks to the leak protection. All washing and drying machines included in the review are protected from leaks to varying degrees. To varying degrees - because protection can be implemented in several ways.

The Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR washer-dryer, as well as Bosch and Siemens models, have complete protection against leaks. In them, water is supplied and drained through special double-walled hoses with solenoid valves at the ends that shut off the flow of water if the hose is damaged. The bottom of these washing machines is sealed; there are special sensors (may be of the float type), when liquid gets on them (or after the float rises to a certain level), the water supply to the washer-dryer is turned off.

Washing and drying machines LGF1496AD3, Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU), Zanussi ZKG2125 have housings protected against leaks. The water supply hoses here are ordinary (this does not mean that they are not of high quality). Note that “protected” hoses are sold in stores, they are not difficult to find, and, as a rule, it is possible to install such hoses (hose) on any modern washing machine (including the trio from this paragraph). But these are additional expenses: for purchase, for installation (it is advisable to entrust it to a specialist).

Opinion site

So, here we have examined in some detail six washing and drying machines, models that are currently widely represented in Russian stores (this, of course, is not all washing and drying machines available for sale, but in general there are not so many of them) .

It’s worth thinking about purchasing a washer-dryer (you can add your options in the comments):

  • Singles;
  • Small families - of two, maximum three people (with the exception of cars with a large load, such as the Samsung model from the review);
  • Families with small children (it happens that some children’s clothes are urgently needed and there is no time to dry them after washing in the usual way);
  • People living in very small apartments, in apartments where there is no possibility of traditional drying (ropes on the balcony, for example).

You should not buy a washer-dryer:

  • If it is planned to constantly wash the clothes of more than two or three people;
  • If there is a lot of laundry in the family;
  • If you are not willing to pay a little more for electricity.

If the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR washer-dryer had standard dimensions for such equipment, if it were cheaper, it would be the best among the entire sextet. But in our situation, when everything is as it is, it remains to be stated that the Samsung model is a beautiful, spacious and safe washer-dryer to use, which is suitable (unlike the rest of those reviewed) for a large family. At the same time, however, it will require more space for installation. Since she is beautiful, it is desirable that she still be visible. That is, for example, installing it in a special room (for washing, drying, ironing clothes - such things happen, for example, in country houses) is quite strange. If you have such a room, it is generally better to buy a separate washing machine and dryer. In general, the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR stands out from its rather standard-looking peers with its bright and successful design experiment and offers excellent washing and drying functionality. It has convenient and intuitive controls, a new digital (inverter) motor. We award her a special prize from the jury (editorial staff of our portal). But, for the reasons stated above, we cannot award first place - this would be dishonest in relation to other participants in the review.

Bosch WVD24460OE and Siemens WD14H441, although they differ in cost, are in many ways similar to each other (mainly functionally). The design of both models has already been mentioned above - no frills, in the German style, but a little boring (however, the Germans always have their own “fans” in this sense). The washing and drying functionality, in general, fully meets modern requirements. I didn’t like the loading of the Bosch model - 5 kg and 2.5 kg for drying - it won’t be enough. Overall, “normal heroes.” And there are no complaints about the Siemens model at all - there is an adequate download, a set of programs, and build quality. There are no problems with the controls either; everything, in general, is easy and simple. Only the buttons-sensors, which are not clear whether they are buttons or sensors, are a little confusing (but, probably, this is a matter of habit). Both cars are strong middle peasants, “good business executives”, if you like. Siemens is more impressive, but, perhaps, mainly because of its appearance, plus this model has normal load rates.

Washer-dryer LG F1496AD3. Everything about her is good. The appearance, although without pretension, has a small twist (circular illumination of program selection, for example). The range of washing and drying programs is adequate. In any case, it will definitely be enough for most of your everyday and not only everyday “washing needs”. A specially designed washing drum (by the way!) - with a textured surface optimized for the Six Moves of Care technology (see above). Good load when washing. It is possible to wash and dry non-stop (you load up to 4 kg of dirty clothes, then take out clean and dry ones). An economical inverter motor of the new generation Direct Drive with a direct drive system, for which the manufacturer provides a ten-year guarantee (the manufacturer also positions it as quite quiet in operation, but if you look at the official noise indicators - in the table at the beginning of the review - there is not much difference with " you won’t see regular engines in most other cars). If something in the car stops working or works somehow incorrectly, Smart Diagnostic will help. The idea is that the user who calls the technical support service is told a combination of buttons that must be pressed on the control panel, after which the telephone microphone must be brought to the speaker built into the washing machine, through which the sound combination will sound. In turn, special equipment in the service center deciphers the sound combination and displays information about the malfunction. Thus, the user can fix many malfunctions independently, following the instructions of the service center engineer. If the malfunction turns out to be serious, then a service center specialist will come to the user with the spare parts necessary for repair. The technology allows you to recognize up to 78 different errors. This model is clearly a leader in its segment of household appliances.

Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU). If it weren’t for the “bad hole” in the hatch cuff, the car would be among the budget leaders. And so - a fly in the ointment. Otherwise, everything is very good. Washing and drying functionality is adequate. It looks modest, but not sadly modest. An even more informative control panel would be nice. There are only pictogram symbols on it - some will understand them normally and remember them, but others will always have to look at the instruction manual. The words on the panel in English: Daily, Special, Dry, etc. will be clear to some, but will confuse others. Yes, and one more thing: there are still two spin intensity positions and the impossibility of turning it off simply with a button - although, as noted, this is a traditional solution for budget models, but not so user-friendly. Low variability in start delay time. Look, we finally found something to complain about. Now it’s not even clear whether the car would have succeeded as a “budget leader” if the “hole” had been “good.” Are there any operators? Share your impressions in the comments.

The Zanuss iZKG2125 has a better spin cycle than the Indesit - it can be switched off - and has more intensity control positions. A normal set of washing and drying programs for a relatively inexpensive machine, good build quality and not intimidating appearance. But here's the control panel... Or rather, not the whole panel, but a rotary programmer. We see it as overloaded with numerical values, not always understandable symbols, and even with some strange scale around it. Moreover, if the manufacturer of the Indesit model, albeit in the form of icons, has placed information about the programs on the front part of the cuvette, then there is nothing of that here - the user will always have to look at the instruction manual (someone, of course, will get used to it, remember it, especially if mostly the same loops are used, but not all). In general, everything is good, but there are some shortcomings.

If we nevertheless distribute our preferences among the models, which, I think, may well serve as a recommendation for someone to buy or not to buy, then, leaving the Samsung Eco-bubble WD1142XVR in splendid unattainable isolation, in first place among the “regular” washer-dryers of the cars included in the review, we will highlight the model from LG - F1496AD3. Silver from Siemens WD14H441. Third place, with a serious, however, reservation regarding light loading, we still give to Bosch WVD24460OE. Behind it is the Zanussi ZKG2125 - there are fewer minor shortcomings here than in the Indesit IWDC 6105 (EU), which, moreover, is not doing very well with the drain hole in the hatch cuff (and this shortcoming, in our opinion, is not so minor ).
