Garden wheelbarrow with motor. Self-propelled carts and wheelbarrows with gasoline engines (motorized cars)

A unique new product of the year has finally gone on sale in our branded stores - the Greenworks 40V G40GC self-propelled battery garden cart! Let's figure out what kind of animal this is and why it is needed?

Currently, the garden equipment market is undergoing fundamental changes, and people are increasingly thinking about the environment, convenience and maximum mechanization of garden equipment. More recently, battery technology was considered something unusual and little-known, expensive and unreliable. And now no one will be surprised by the battery chain saw or, say, a lawnmower. But today we are ready to present you an amazing thing - a garden wheelbarrow with an electric motor, which runs on a 40V battery from the GreenWorks series.

You ask: “What is it used for?” The answer is simple: “For the same thing as a regular garden wheelbarrow: transporting cargo, soil, sand, crops and other garden cargo. This wheelbarrow is also suitable for construction needs. The only difference is that you don’t have to lift and push it all thanks to the installed electric motor driving the front two wheels, and the dump truck function will help you easily dump everything out of the body quickly and easily. It is important to note that there is also a support wheel at the back that will prevent the cart from tipping over.

The trolley has impressive characteristics:

  1. Large body (trough): 106 liters,
  2. Material: impact-resistant plastic;
  3. Load capacity: 100 kg, with lifting mechanism and gas stop;
  4. Long battery life: up to 40 minutes from a 4 A/h battery.

A body made of impact-resistant plastic is needed to reduce the weight of the structure, and accordingly, less battery consumption during movement and, as a result, increased operating time. To unload sand or soil, do not gently tip the entire wheelbarrow; the body is equipped with a lifting mechanism, a gas strut and operates on the principle of a dump truck.

The 100kg load capacity is more than enough for most tasks. The cart will always be in balance, as it has two large wheels and is stable even on soft ground. There is a special support wheel with a parking brake. Therefore, there is no need to worry about spontaneous rolling on uneven areas.

Battery life is an important parameter, agree. Forty minutes of continuous battery life means about 3 km of travel at maximum speed. If we take into account the average area of dacha plots, then we can safely say that 3 km is even more than necessary.

But that's not all the benefits. The main thing is that this model is very easy to control and use, and since it is equipped with an electric motor, you do not have to worry about maintenance and replacement Supplies(oil, spark plugs, filters), start or prepare the fuel mixture. The trolley does not emit harmful gases with an unpleasant odor and does not harm the environment at all. Another plus is completely silent operation. And for example, if your small children need to sleep during the day, then you can continue your gardening work in complete peace without worrying about noise.

For an example of how it works, you can watch this video:

This device is turned on by simply turning the key - almost like a real car. The speeds are switched using a special lever and attention: there is a reverse, that is, the car drives both forward and backward. It will become an indispensable assistant for the fairer sex or older people who are not always able to cope with a heavy load.

Let us remind you that the self-propelled cart is part of the Greenworks 40V device line, which will allow you to save on the purchase of batteries and chargers, if you have previously purchased equipment from this series.

TROLLEY BUCKET WITH YOUR HANDS

MODERN GARDEN CARTS ARE GOOD, BUT THEY HAVE SEVERAL DISADVANTAGES – THEY ARE UNCONVENIENT TO LOAD AND THEY ARE UNSTABLE DUE TO THE HIGH BODY. SO I DID NOT SPEND ON BUYING STORE OPTIONS, BUT MADE MY OWN.

You needed: a trolley frame for carrying hand luggage, 3 mm thick aluminum sheet, four 25x25 mm duralumin corners, screws with M4 nuts.

I removed the old paint from the surface of the frame and went over all the parts with sandpaper. Replaced the “original” wheels with more durable ones. The frame was primed and painted (photo 1).

From an aluminum sheet I cut out two triangular parts with an angle at the apex of 110 degrees. The length of the side edges can be any, in my case - 70 cm. From the same material I cut out two rectangular parts with a length of 70 cm and a width equal to the distance between the wheels on the cart.

On the side edges of the triangular parts and the long edges of the rectangular parts, at a distance of 1 cm from the edge, I drilled the same number of holes at a distance of 5 cm from each other.

I drilled similar holes at the same level in the shelves of the aluminum corners. Fixing metal parts together with screws and nuts. assembled the “bucket body” (photo 2)

I bolted the body to the frame.

In order for the load to end up in the cart, it is not necessary to lift it; it is enough to simply tip the body over and move the wheelbarrow close to it, then roll the luggage. To unload, you need to perform the same steps, but in reverse order (photo 3)

Another feature of such a trolley is that the cargo on it can be delivered inside any country house, going up the steps.

CAR WITH A MOTOR WITH YOUR HANDS

During the development of the site, it was necessary to transport a lot of sand and crushed stone. To do this, I converted my snow blower into a self-propelled cart. The result was a rather convenient design that helped me out throughout the construction process.

The snow blower with the auger was disconnected from the motor block with the chassis.

Made of metal profile pipe with a cross section of 20×40 mm, I welded a rectangular frame measuring 450×600 mm. I attached wheels d 250 mm to one side at the corners, and to the opposite side I welded plates with holes (photo 1) for attaching to the chassis of the snow blower.

I connected the trolley frame to the running gear of the unit with bolts.

From plywood 10 mm thick I made a bunker (photo 2) 90 cm long and 70 cm wide at the top. I connected the plywood sheets together with plastic corners and self-tapping screws.

To attach the plywood “body” to the front of the frame, I welded door hinges (see photo 1). it turned out to be a small dump truck.

The self-propelled cart turned out to be very convenient and in demand in the household, and my wife liked it, and she helped me with everything.

If the farm does not have a snow blower, a walk-behind tractor can replace it.

An excellent assistant in the courtyard of a private house, in the garden or in the garden - a self-propelled cart will eliminate the need to carry heavy loads or push a wheelbarrow with loads. She will do everything herself, the operator will only have to guide this convenient “vehicle”, switch speeds and load her with work.

Today, manufacturers of agricultural equipment create devices that simplify work on a plot of land as much as possible, and a self-propelled garden cart is one of these assistants. Its mechanism and principle of operation are quite simple, which is why they are often bought as a gift for elderly parents, so that they can easily transport various objects and cargo around their favorite dacha.

What a self-propelled trolley can do

The range of cargo transported is quite wide. The trolley can be used to move seedlings, gravel, sand, fertilizers, bricks, firewood, etc. The presented models have forward and reverse speeds (2 or more), so it is very convenient to maneuver around the site. Sometimes a self-propelled garden cart is used for clearing snow if the model has the ability to attach attachments. This mini technique has many advantages:

  • Quiet operation.
  • Ability to transport loads from 90 to 500 kg.
  • Easy controls.
  • Small radius turn.
  • Reverse.
  • High maneuverability.
  • Climb uphill at an angle of 30-35 degrees.
  • Working on uneven ground.

What features do self-propelled trolleys have?

The engine included in the design can be electric and powered by 1 or 2 batteries, as well as gasoline. Battery life varies among individual models. The ergonomic self-propelled cart is equipped with a platform on which you can transport various items, removable trough for bulk or small fractions. The sides of the platform can be extended to create a small improvised body.

In our store you can purchase wheeled and crawler trolleys. The latter are perfect for uneven terrain. If you need just such a self-propelled cart, it will not be difficult to buy it. We offer products best brands. Sometimes the design provides a device for lifting objects from the ground. In this case, cargo transportation will be practically automated.

It should be noted that the unit has high maneuverability. The angle at which the crane turns is small. The device does not need room to maneuver. To unload cargo, self-propelled carts are equipped with a lever mechanism. The lifting angle of the trough during pouring is 45-60 degrees. This is enough for the contents to completely spill out onto the ground. Each model has a parking brake that keeps the wheels stationary when stopping.

Buy a self-propelled trolley of excellent quality

Our store presents models from American and European brands that have a high reputation. Abroad, the practice of modernizing agricultural work is widely used and is constantly being improved. Now Russians can turn work on their site from hard labor into pleasure. If you need a high-quality self-propelled cart, it is better to buy imported models, since foreigners know a lot about this. This product has a long warranty period. If you follow the instructions, this equipment can last for many years. Buy a self-propelled cart for your property or as a gift for your parents, and appreciate today’s possibilities of technological progress.

“I received two educations - both as a mechanic and as a mechanical engineering technologist. I love coming up with new projects and innovative solutions to any problems I encounter or projects I've given up because they've reached a dead end. Instead of just making something that will work, I prefer to make something that will work better than anyone expected. This is what I came up with when my last thought came to me: electric construction wheelbarrow. This project started out as a yard helper, but beta testing has shown it to be amazingly versatile. This car can help a lot of people in a variety of conditions: My wife drove 15 feet of dirt and 4 feet of dirt to the top of a hill in late winter in Oregon. In her words, "There was no other way to make this trip without a car like this. Everyone needs one of these." I see this will allow our older generation of population to continue to do challenging projects in the yard and beyond. I can see this car being used for contractors, beachgoers, pit racing, and many other construction applications. My car will go uphill, through mud, gravel, sand, in clouds of dust, overcome small obstacles on the ground, without special effort from the user's side.

With the prize money I will buy enough components to build 50 cars as the first batch of goods. These 50 units will be enough for me to get my cars certified and promote them to the construction market. I will use the remaining money to promote my brand through marketing. I also work for the website that will eventually sell the cars, www.deadnutsdesignco.com."

An equally incredible project would be to combine a bicycle and an electric drill - however, this is also being done now.

Life in a country house or in a private house is inextricably linked with the need to build, repair, care for garden beds and improve land plot. Construction and dacha concerns have always been aggravated by the problem of transporting materials, garbage, soil - everything that is always available in abundance at the dacha.

Carrying a hand wheelbarrow is difficult and time-consuming. As an alternative, you can buy a self-propelled cart; there are more than enough offers on the market, or make it yourself if you have free time and a little experience.

Which option to choose

It is best to use a device with an industrial motor as an auxiliary transport. For example, a self-propelled trolley TS 350, photo. Unlike low-power Chinese self-propelled vehicles, the “Lunokhod”, as its owners affectionately call the car, appearance, has a whole bunch of advantages:

  • High load capacity, 450-500 kg of bulk cargo fits into the body;
  • Six-wheel suspension design, providing high cross-country ability and maneuverability;
  • Powerful UMZ-5B engine of 5 hp. and relatively low fuel consumption - 1.5-2.1 l/h.

The car has established itself as an indispensable self-propelled vehicle. Six wheels with all-wheel drive provide excellent stability even on extreme off-road conditions. The alignment of the trolley is done quite competently; the suspension design ensures uniform adhesion of all wheels to the ground. The design of the TC350 supporting frame allows the use of a plow or snow shovel. In general, most modern Chinese and European walk-behind tractors look rather pale against the background of the Lunokhod.

Among the shortcomings of the TC350, experts note the imperfection of the chain transmission and the lack of a cabin on the self-propelled trolley. But considering that this is a home transport, the presence of a roof is not so important. Problems with transmission can be solved by installing a more powerful double-row chain with a link pitch of 19.5, but with the purchase of a trolley, things are much worse. Most fans of this type of technology do not have the opportunity to buy a new self-propelled cart with an engine.

For your information! Production of the Lunokhod TS350 by the Tyumen Engine Plant has been discontinued.

On the secondary market, you can buy a similar self-propelled cart for 1.5-2 thousand dollars, with a badly worn engine. It is clear that any equipment, and especially a cart, can be repaired and restored, but it is often cheaper not to deal with repairs, but to make a self-propelled cart with your own hands.

Industrial self-propelled trolleys

If you set a goal and find a suitable self-propelled vehicle, you will be offered either a hydraulic self-propelled trolley - loader, or a Chinese version of a mini-dumper on caterpillar tracks. For work in the field or at the construction site of a large facility, such a mini-tractor with a lifting capacity of 300 kg may be suitable, but there are few people willing to pay 2 thousand dollars for the opportunity to transfer cargo at a snail’s pace.

Self-propelled vehicles from Honda will be very interesting for households. Its mini-dumpers can hardly be called a self-propelled trolley; they are more construction equipment, but in a private home a small device would be very useful.

For example, the ANTBY800 model is equipped with a 13 hp gasoline engine. Essentially, this is a hydraulic self-propelled cart, since it is based on a hydraulic drive that distributes torque to orbital engines. The trolley is capable of moving up to 800 kg of cargo in the cargo compartment, lifting up to 300 kg to a height of 1.4 m and transporting a trailer weighing up to 2 tons. The hydraulic circuit made it possible to equip the minitractor with a working shovel-blade like a bulldozer. But, like the Lunokhod, Honda’s miracle does not have a cabin or even a place for the operator, which is not entirely convenient, especially if you have to work on the trolley for quite a long time. The cost of a self-propelled cart is almost 700 thousand rubles.

Lighter self-propelled carts, as in the video

They are an order of magnitude cheaper, but in terms of their capabilities they are of little use for housework. As a rule, self-propelled structures have a high center of gravity, weak engine and a short wheelbase. It is convenient to transport loads up to 50 kg over relatively short distances. For construction work or the transportation of engine materials is clearly not enough.

All that remains is to make a self-propelled vehicle with your own hands:

  • Adapt existing transport equipment with an engine, for example, a snow blower, walk-behind tractor or walk-behind mower, to a self-propelled cart;
  • Assemble an original self-propelled structure based on a chainsaw engine and a homemade welded frame;
  • Modify an old scooter, use the engine and transmission;
  • Assemble an electric self-propelled cart.

All of the listed options have long been tried by craftsmen in practice, and many of the assembled homemade carts have shown good results. The main advantage of making a self-propelled cart with your own hands is the ability to customize the design to your needs. In addition, building a self-propelled carrier from spare parts and components will cost much less than a purchased cart.

An alternative option, or a self-propelled cart based on home motorized equipment

The easiest way to build a self-propelled cart is to repurpose household appliances used for cleaning the yard, shoveling snow or mowing grass. The best option The construction of a self-propelled vehicle will involve the re-equipment of equipment that is uselessly idle in a garage or barn during the warm season. This is a manual self-propelled snow blower with a gasoline engine.

The snow removal machine has all the necessary components - an engine, rear wheel drive and a manual control system. To convert a snow blower into a self-propelled cart version, you will need to perform the following operations. Initially, it is necessary to dismantle the shovel or auger snow pick-up. As a rule, auxiliary units are installed on the front frame beam. The driven shaft and belt drive pulley for the engine power take-off are also installed there.

Instead of the standard frame, you will need to weld a new frame structure designed for increased load. If the snow blower has a 3-4 hp engine, then you will need a frame made of profiled pipe with a cross-section of 20x40 mm and a wall thickness of at least 2 mm.

The frame will need to be made with an increased size of the base, since the cargo box will rest on the front beam of the structure, and brackets will need to be installed in the lower part for installing the rotary axles of the wheels.

For a self-propelled trolley, it is important to ensure easy turning and maneuvering in a limited area. For the front wheels, it is best to use self-aligning independent rubber wheels. The location for installing the box is selected in such a way that the weight from the engine and cargo is evenly distributed over all four wheels. Rotary hinges are installed on the front beam of the frame; you can use garage awnings; any others, even door ones, will be too weak and will not last long. The cargo compartment will rotate on the canopies and unload bulk materials with a dump truck, as in the video

To prevent the cargo box from jumping when moving, it will be necessary to provide a latch. The shape of the box can be chosen in any order, it is best to copy standard scheme garden wheelbarrow, the main thing is to choose the right size of the cargo compartment. For a self-propelled vehicle, the optimal volume would be 40-50 liters. If the self-propelled cart will not be used for transporting humus, manure or organic fertilizers, then the cargo compartment can be made of plywood, and the joints and seams can be reinforced with steel angle or simply covered with galvanized metal.

Most often, they try to use a conventional walk-behind tractor with a gasoline engine to make a self-propelled cart. Most craftsmen note that converting any walk-behind tractor into a self-propelled vehicle is not a very good idea, since the unit costs quite a lot of money, has only one pair of wheels and a high engine installation. As a result of alterations, such a cart will cost a lot of money, and the end result is a long and unstable vehicle that is difficult to control on the road.

We build a self-propelled motorized cart with our own hands

According to most home-made craftsmen, their main interest is in construction similar devices is to make a homemade self-propelled cart with minimal costs for purchasing spare parts. Moreover, there is no need to register or draw up documents for homemade transport. Even if you have to go out onto the road, there will be no complaints from drivers or the traffic police, provided that the self-propelled cart does not interfere with road users and moves at a speed of no more than 7 km/h.

What you need to make a self-propelled cart with your own hands

To assemble any, even the simplest self-propelled trolley, you will need to use basic components from available motor equipment:

  • A working gasoline engine with a clutch assembly and the ability to control speed by cable and engage the ferrido disk. A chainsaw or an engine from a walk-behind tractor would be best, but the motors of modern walk-behind tractors are quite heavy and bulky to install on a light self-propelled cart;
  • A transmission or a system for transmitting torque from the engine to the wheels of a trolley, most often using ready-made components from a scooter, making a chain or belt drive with your own hands;
  • Frame and wheels. Since the cart is intended for transporting goods, it will require, at a minimum, rubber wheels with a diameter of 20-25 cm and a welded frame made of profiled pipe with a wall thickness of at least 2 mm.

In addition to all of the above, you will need parts for the brakes and a cable engine control system. It is better to purchase these parts new and not skimp on the safety of operating self-propelled equipment.

Most engine parts are purchased from dismantling old motorcycles or from advertisements. As a rule, owners of such self-propelled equipment have in stock a considerable set of spare parts, sometimes even new, original ones. If they decide to sell a motorcycle or scooter, they will probably sell it for some money and something from their stock.

Self-propelled scooter trolley

Most often, old scooters and bikes become donors of parts and spare parts. After introduction mandatory registration mini scooters and mopeds, many owners began to look for where to use the old engine. Japanese scooters typically have a very durable high-revving gasoline engine with an oil clutch and a semi-automatic transmission.

Nowadays, original Honda scooters are almost universally replaced by Chinese self-propelled vehicles. Chinese scooters can break down on the second day of use, but there are some that work no worse than the Japanese. This is exactly the kind of equipment you need to look for during disassembly.

A self-propelled trolley is made from a scooter in the following order:

The trolley's transmission and engine remain untouched; no one has yet been able to convert the miracle of Japanese technology into something more advanced at home.

Advice! Therefore, even if you come across projects with a radical modification of the engine or belt variator, bypass them on the tenth road. It is best to use the native engine layout for a self-propelled cart.

The operator controls the self-propelled cart while standing on the rear folding wheeled platform. Similar schemes are widely used in the designs of heavy one and a half liter walk-behind tractors produced by the Chinese for the countries of Southeast Asia. The design has proven to be extremely convenient and practical; moreover, a self-propelled trolley with this arrangement is much more stable and controllable than “lazy” designs in which the driver sits above the engine, or like on a walk-behind tractor with a trailer.

How convenient it is to operate a self-propelled trolley while standing on the platform can be judged from the video

One thing can be said - even with an empty cargo compartment, you can ride a self-propelled trolley much faster and safer than a walk-behind tractor.

Electric version of a self-propelled trolley

Often, households simply need a wheelbarrow with a drive to move soil, fertilizer or construction waste 10-30 m. In this case, there is no need to build a serious device with a gasoline engine; you can completely get by with the electric version, as in the video

According to the author's idea, a gear or belt drive and a high-speed motor from a powerful electric drill or hammer drill are attached to the axle of the wheels of an ordinary garden wheelbarrow. Taking into account the downshift number, the torque of the drill engine is quite enough to push a loaded wheelbarrow at walking speed.

To power the electric motor, you will need to stretch additional wiring and hang it on a tensioned wire along the route of movement. To make the work easier for the wheelbarrow, you will need to lay a hard covering of boards or slabs, otherwise after 10-15 minutes of operation the engine of the cart will overheat and fail.

Self-propelled cart made from a chainsaw

Buying even an old scooter to make a home version of a self-propelled cart is always a lottery; it is not known for certain how long the old engine and transmission will last. If you set out to use a homemade trolley as a mini-truck, then you need to be prepared for the fact that the variator belts will fail very quickly. They are inexpensive, but finding original Japanese parts for a CVT transmission and engine is very difficult.

Parts for self-propelled vehicle

You can build a self-propelled cart with a practically indestructible transmission with your own hands from a domestic chainsaw such as “Druzhba” or “Ural”. It is clear that domestic equipment is chosen primarily because of the successful layout of the engine design and the relatively low price of the device.

As in the case of a scooter, we do not touch the chainsaw engine; only the clutch assembly and the cutting chain drive sprocket need to be slightly altered. First of all, you will need to completely remove the clutch from the engine. The silumin engine crankcase is cut so that a window 30 mm wide and 70 mm long is obtained in the lower part. The window dimensions are preliminary and can be adjusted during the manufacturing process of the self-propelled trolley. An example of how the crankcase is rebuilt can be seen in the video

The transmission of a self-propelled trolley is made in the form of a chain drive. You can use a single-row chain from a light motorcycle or a double-row from a car engine. It all depends on what spare parts the master has at his disposal and what load is planned on the self-propelled cart. In addition, you will need to select the ratio of the teeth of the drive sprocket and the gear. Usually, a ready-made chain drive from an old motorcycle like “Java”, “Izh” or “Minsk” is perfect for a self-propelled trolley.

For the right choice chain drive, you need to compare the speed of a motorcycle engine in first gear and the average speed of a chainsaw. Only in this case can you count on obtaining an acceptable speed of the self-propelled trolley. The speed in first gear is 5-9 km/h, but since the chainsaw engine speed is significantly higher, the cart can reach speeds of up to 20 km/h and higher.

In the design of the chainsaw, there is no shaft or boss on the clutch housing on which the driven sprocket can be installed. You have to disassemble the assembly and weld a finished shaft, taken from a motorcycle engine or made independently.

This is the most the hard part work, as you will need to grind lathe landing collar on the disk. Any attempts to weld the shaft to the disc “on the knee” can damage the entire engine; the more accurately the shaft is welded, the less vibration there will be on the frame of the self-propelled cart when the chainsaw motor is running. To prevent the car body from sweating oil stains, you will need to install a new oil seal or packing seal.

Self-propelled trolley design

A large chain gear is welded onto the disk of one of the rear wheels of the cart. As in the case of manufacturing a shaft, you will first need to carefully center the disk and gear, tighten it with bolts, check for radial and axial runout, and only then weld it by electric welding. Due to the use of a direct chain drive, the engine mounting location is shifted from the main axis of the self-propelled trolley to the side. Because of this, the center of gravity shifts, so the trolley has to be installed on the opposite side of the balance weight.

The basis of the design of a self-propelled cart is a U-shaped frame made of profiled pipe, welded to an ordinary garden wheelbarrow with a metal frame.

The engine is mounted on the frame without any rubber cushions, the throttle and clutch cables are transferred to the handles of the trolley, the length of the standard cables is not enough, so you have to use any suitable version of the cable in a metal sheath.

A hook or ring is welded to the rear support of the cart, to which a support platform for the cart driver is attached. The platform is connected to a wheelbarrow in a flexible manner using a conventional carabiner. This makes it easier to control a self-propelled cart on bad roads, but becomes critically dangerous if you try to accelerate the engine to maximum. The authors of the self-propelled cart claim that on a good road the self-propelled vehicle accelerates to a speed of 50 km/h.

Conclusion

The average estimate for building a self-propelled cart with your own hands is $150-200. This price includes the purchase of an inexpensive gasoline engine with transmission elements. If you order the production of a self-propelled vehicle in a mechanical workshop or a master auto mechanic, the total costs will increase to $350, but with a guarantee of quality workmanship welding work. A Chinese industrial self-propelled trolley can be bought for the price of a light walk-behind tractor, so in any case, making the device yourself will be much more profitable.
