New survival mode for Skyrim. The official survival mod for Skyrim Special Edition lacks the depth of its free counterparts Survival mode for skyrim se

Once again, free mods have more to offer than paid content from the Creation Club.

Creation Club recently made its way to Skyrim Special Edition, and as with Fallout 4, it's offering a small selection of weapons and armor for sale for Skyrim SE. There are also two mods: one adds crowds of zombies at night, and the other is an official survival mode.

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that selling a survival mode for Skyrim SE is a dubious idea. There are many free mods that add survival mode, and there have been for years, for the original Skyrim and even for the Special Edition. Most notable: Chesko's outstanding Campfire mod and the Frostfall series of mods. And it is obvious that these projects were inspired by the creators of paid content for Skyrim SE.

In addition, when the same mode from Bethesda came out for Fallout 4, it was (and is) free. Meanwhile, its Skyrim SE sibling was only free for the first week, and I don't need to take my own internet temperature to know that some people weren't taking the news kindly.

However, I'm still interested in this mode. Since I already bought a couple of things from the Creation Club for the fourth Fallout, I decided to look at the new survival system for SSE. It costs 500 credits in the Club store, which is about five dollars, but you can't buy exactly five hundred, the minimum threshold is 750, which is about $7.99.

Even if you have 100 credits, which the company gives for free, you still need to spend 8 bucks to buy the mode, unless you bought it when it was free (I didn't, for example). As is clear, I don't like buying a fixed amount of minerals to buy something that costs a fraction of that fixed amount.

Faced with the prospect of beginning new game with that long cart ride and then waiting for a hysterical dragon, and then running through a familiar path and a long walk to Riverwood, I decided to download a reliable (and free) mod called Alternate Start (link to standard version). It allows you to start the game not only as Dovahkiin in that cart.

For example, you can play as a traveler who wakes up on a sinking ship in the middle of icy water off the coast of Solitude. You have to escape from a capsized ship, grabbing all the objects you can find along the way, and then sail along cold water to the shore. Looks like a good way to start a new game.

I can confirm, the water is cold. Very cold. As I splashed around the decorations of the ship, the water quickly ate away at my health, and in the end I was only able to spend a few seconds in the water until I was frozen almost to death. In SSE Survival mode, the cold prevents you from fully regenerating your health (it also makes picking locks and pickpocketing harder, perhaps by making your fingers shake).

Also, health does not recover on its own after some time, but in Skyrim this is not so critical, since all characters are trained in healing magic from birth. If you retire for a while and also have a sufficient supply of mana, you can heal yourself.

When I finally got out of the ship onto the ice floe on which it had hit, the hunger system began to make itself felt frequently. Too often for my taste. However, this is not exclusive specifically for survival in Skyrim SE ().

I like the hunger notification itself: it's a very convincing stomach growling sound. I just wish I didn't hear that sound too often: I've eaten several apples and five whole cabbages, but I'm still almost constantly hungry.

Survival for Skyrim SE doesn't have thirst, which is an odd omission. Of course, in a world that is almost completely covered in snow, you can hardly get dehydrated (of course, if a hypothetical thirst system would allow you to drink some snow), but still the fact that nothing was added regarding the need to drink is still disturbing.

Standing on the ice floes, I try several times to swim to a safe place. At first it looks like I can't do it: as soon as I get to the next ice floe, I freeze to death.

After five attempts, I finally manage to survive by diving into the water by sprinting in the air and then using a healing spell as soon as I hit the ice. Instead of running to Solitude, I set my sights on Dawnstar. Fast travel is not an option in this mod, but at least you can save indefinitely.

Along the way I tried to warm myself. There's something satisfying about sitting around a fire in games, and that's exactly what you can do in SSE. As for keeping yourself warm with clothing and armor, it seems like they just stuffed heat ratings onto each item, and often the ratings are the same. While I was researching the equippables, I was expecting to have to sacrifice armor for warmth, but that's not the case.

Iron armor has a score of 27. Fur armor has a score of 27. Standard clothing has a score of 27. Sometimes you can find armor with a score of up to 54, but even so I don’t feel like I’m making a difficult choice, that I’m wasting time comparing attributes between different clothes are worth it. It could also be because there is so much clothing in the game that, even with the reduced carry weight in this mode, I find myself carrying multiple sets of clothing.

Since I couldn't cook in the first few fires I found (and also couldn't start my own fire to cook in), I ate some raw fish meat and was immediately stricken with poisoning. It reduces the recovery of mana and stamina, and also prevents food from restoring health. Well, most importantly, the residents of Dawnstar are now permanent basis they tell me that I am sick. I didn't like their manners, so I stole all the food and clothing I could find in their houses.

I was tired of the constant cold and so decided to head south. However, a little south of Dawnstar I was met by a storm, and so I turned back. Then I had a few painful moments trying to warm myself by the giant's fire while his mammoths tried to trample me into puree. I'm currently fighting my way through a cave full of bandits, mostly because I hope one of them has hidden a potion somewhere that I can use to cure the poisoning, or a pair of warm boots, or at least some damn a pot where I could cook the meat before eating.

After a couple of hours of play, I thought this mode from Creation Club was quite good: it was a good way to introduce players to the concept of survival if they had never tried such mods before (or had never played a survival game before). The mode forces you to think more broadly about your actions, slows down the pace of the game, and also adds a series of small decisions, and it makes these decisions significant. If you don't want to go through the hassle of installing free mods and don't mind spending $5 (well, actually $8), it would be a good idea to check out this product.

Bethesda introduced a new difficulty modeSkyrim Special Edition, which will be sold in " Creativity Club» . Yes yes exactly sell. It seems that this time the company did not engage in charity. The mode is currently undergoing open beta testing in Steam. The release version will be available free for a week after its launch.

Survival mode adds gameplay components and challenges that make... Skyrim to a terribly cold and wild country. On the map below, you can see treacherous climate zones, as well as landmarks that will help you survive your journey through Skyrim.

The hardest game to survive is Legendary difficulty.

Hunger

Over time, the feeling of hunger will increase, and this will affect your strength and ability to handle weapons. When you get hungry, your Stamina will decrease - this effect will appear as a dark area on the Stamina meter. Eat to regain your strength. If you eat enough, you'll get a satiety bonus. Prepared food satisfies hunger better than raw food. Eating raw meat can cause food poisoning, after which you will not be able to replenish your health with food until the poisoning effect ends. Hot soups can now be cooked using fire salt - this will keep you warm and give you a bonus to your heat level.

Fatigue

Even the most seasoned travelers need to rest sometimes. Fatigue will reduce your magicka reserve - this effect will appear as a dark area on the magic indicator. As fatigue accumulates, potions will work less and less effectively, and the recovery of magic and strength will slow down. You will have to sleep in bed regularly to get rid of fatigue. In Survival mode, the good rest bonus is no longer automatically granted after sleeping. Sleeping outside won't allow you to get enough rest, and you'll wake up feeling drained at best. By sleeping in the house, in bed, you will receive the bonus of a good rest.

Cold

The terrible freezing cold has become a very real enemy of the heroes Skyrim. Traveling in rainy or cold weather increases your Freeze Score. The cold will reduce your health - this effect will appear as a dark area on the health indicator. When you get cold, your movement speed and ability to pick locks and pick pockets suffer. If you get completely frozen, your health will drop to zero and you will die from the cold. You can warm up by standing near a fire, eating hot soup, or moving to a warmer place. The sun or snowflake icon that appears near the compass shows that you are getting warmer or colder.

Warm

The higher your heat level, the slower you will feel the effects of the cold. As a rule, clothing and armor help keep you warm - this is indicated in the item description. There are very warm armors, and there are also those that are poorly suited for protection from the cold. The heat level can be temporarily increased by eating hot soup or picking up a torch.

Ice water

Swimming in an ice-cold river can kill you. Once in cold water, you will immediately begin to freeze, and your health indicator will begin to decrease. Get out of the cold water as soon as possible to start warming up and stop losing your health. Spell" Fire Cloak"or Dunmer ability" Wrath of the Ancestors" may provide temporary immunity to the effects of ice water.

Fast travel

Fast travel is disabled. If you want to get somewhere, you have to walk or ride. Or you can go by cart or boat - but remember that after a long journey you may arrive at your destination suffering from hunger, cold and fatigue.

Health Regeneration

Health is no longer restored. Use appropriate spells, food and potions to restore your health.

Level up

To increase the level you need to sleep in a bed. You can spend your ability points later when they are added after sleep.

Load capacity

In Survival mode, the carrying capacity is significantly reduced. When you are overloaded, your energy reserves are used up faster and you get tired very quickly. The weight of arrows and lockpicks is now also taken into account.

Disease

Wild animals can carry dangerous new diseases, and previously known diseases have become even more nasty. Eating raw meat can now lead to food poisoning. If the disease is not treated, the patient's condition will worsen, and over time the disease will become more severe.

Ailments

If you get sick and are not treated, the illness can develop into an illness, the effects of which may linger after your condition has improved. Illnesses go away on their own over time. But they can also be cured, like other diseases. Among the ailments are:
  • Weakening: You use melee weapons less effectively and block less damage with your shield.
  • Confusion: all enchantments and spells are weaker.
  • Frostbite: You're less efficient at picking locks and picking pockets, and you deal less damage with a bow.

Sanctuaries

Shrines no longer heal illnesses for free; To receive a blessing at the sanctuary, you need to make a donation. The shrines you will create in own home, can be used for free.

Abilities and standing stones

Capabilities " Patch pockets" And " Sign of the Horse"give + 50 units to carrying capacity, not 100 .

Vampires and werewolves

Both vampires and werewolves can satisfy their hunger by feeding on their victims. When you transform into a vampire or werewolf, you will freeze much more slowly than usual.

Despite the abundance of new games and additions to them, Bethesda continues to develop a fifth of the scrolls. Now it will be added to Skyrim new survival mode. What will he be like? First of all, game components and challenges will be added that turn Skyrim into a terribly cold and wild country. Here's what he'll add:

Introduction for new and old users:
- If you are current/new or former user Frostfall 2.6, first of all... welcome back! I'm really glad you want to try Frostfall 3. The mod has been redesigned to be easier and more fun. Of course, this means that a lot has changed. Below is a list of important changes that occurred between 2.x and 3 versions. Some of the mod features mentioned below are part of the Campfire mod, which is the new base/core for Frostfall 3.

What's new:
- Optional (not yet available) - Frostfall SkyUI Add-On - will allow you to see the “Warmth” and “Cold Protection” values shown on each piece of armor in your inventory.
- New offline skill system. Spend time in harsh weather conditions to earn Endurance skill points. (see Campfire and Frostfall skill system below)
- A new ability, Hidden Fire, is achieved at the last level of the Endurance skill.
- Tents can catch fire and be destroyed.
- All your settings for Campfire and Frostfall are saved in your profile settings. Settings data is saved to files. They are loaded when changing characters and starting a new game. You can configure all the necessary parameters once and use them in any saves, since the settings are loaded automatically when you start the game. Campfire and Frostfall each have 10 customization slots.
- New talent "Survival Skills: Instincts" can help you find creatures and important elements in environment.

What's changed:
- The "Rescue" option is now the default when you reach the maximum "Resistance" level. You never know where you will end up, you may be picked up and dragged to the next, nearest tavern, or you may be transported to another location in Skyrim. This feature was introduced in early versions of Frostfall. In my experience, this is a much more fun and exciting alternative than simply dying from freezing/hypothermia. If you still want to die when you reach the maximum dose of frostbite, simply enable this setting in the MSM menu.
- The installation of the fire has changed significantly. Read on the Campfire mod page.
- Hypothermia Protection and Hypothermia Resistance have been combined into a single Warmth attribute.
- New attribute “Protection from cold”, determines how quickly you get wet in the rain.
- Cloaks, instead of providing resistance and protection from rain, now provide Warmth and Protection from Cold, like all other pieces of armor.
- Once wet, you will become more resistant to fire, but weaker to electrical damage.
- Once under a fire spell, Hypothermia will be reduced to a minimum, and you will also dry out completely if you were wet.
- Once under a frost spell, Hypothermia will increase to the limit.

What was removed:
- Summoning shelters has been temporarily removed, will be returned in future versions. I need a little extra time to adjust it to the new system.
- Removed Stones. You can craft things like stone arrows and axes from wooden components.
- Removed Equipment check. New section in the settings menu the mod will be dedicated to a new way to change the Heat and Cold Protection on your items.
- The ax no longer breaks.
- Removed the option "Axe for fast travel"
- Skills from the SkyRe Wayfarer Frostfall plug-in are included in the Stamina skill tree in Frostfall 3. Do not use the SkyRe Wayfarer Plug-in with Frostfall 3. Still compatible with SkyRe.
- The highest degree of Hypothermia will not interfere with the search for the tree.
- Vampires are no longer susceptible to Hypothermia. They are immune to frostbite and receive passive +100 Heat bonuses.
- Removed "Presets" (Easy, Classic, Hardcore).
- You no longer need to collect firewood using "Survival Skills: Firewood Harvesting". Instead, you can harvest branches and dead wood. Now firewood can only be chopped using a chopping block.

Start of Frostfall:
First, you must enable it. There are several ways to launch Frostfall:
0. For the game Skyrim SE, the player will be added the settings spell “Frostfall Settings”, activate and use it as a shout.
1. When you first enter the game after installing the mod, there will be a notification “Look at the stars.” When you stare at the night sky around 8 sec. (from the first person) then the mod will start. You should look at the night sky between 7 pm and 7 am.
2. Open the MSM mod settings menu (SkyUI), go to the main tab " general information" and change "Frostfall: disabled" to "enabled". The mod will launch.
Note:
Starting Frostfall 3.1 and higher can take up to a minute or more due to the large amount of data that is created when the mod is first launched. Be patient. You can check the progress in the MSM menu. This installation occurs only when you first launch the mod. If you later turn it off and then turn it back on, it will turn back on almost instantly. After starting Frostfall, you will see a message saying that you have found a copy of the long-lost book, The Skyrim Survival Guide. (It's just a book, but it contains useful tips, read and learn!) As soon as you read the book, Frostfall will begin.

How to play

Hypothermia:
- Frostfall introduces Hypothermia, which represents the current state in the environment. When you are cold, Hypothermia increases.
- Increasing your Heat will slow down the increase in Hypothermia. Clothing, armor, gloves and other items can increase Heat.
- When Hypothermia increases, you receive negative effects. When Hypothermia reaches its maximum, you will lose consciousness and wake up again, but in a different place (possibly very far away).
- Hypothermia increases much faster in cold conditions, during snowstorms, rainstorms and at night.
- Secondary attribute, Humidity, whether your character is currently dry or wet from rain or after swimming. When Humidity is high, Hypothermia increases rapidly.
- Increasing Frost Protection reduces the rate of getting wet in the rain. Frost Protection also helps reduce Frostbite in severe weather.
- Getting wet has its own benefits, such as resistance to fire (at the expense of vulnerability to electricity) and allows you to use the Blow of Steam spell
- Hypothermia and Humidity are presented as indicators on the screen. You can see the current Hypothermia and Humidity levels at any time using the Survival Skill: Weather Sense.
- You will receive messages and visual/sound effects when your condition changes significantly.

Stay warm and dry:
- Falling into a lake or falling under a “blizzard” spell is death for the unprepared. But with a little planning, resourcefulness and experience, you can overcome these challenges with ease. It all comes down to one thing, stay warm and stay dry. Here are a few ways to do this:
- Wear armor or clothing on every slot. Clothing and armor increases your Heat and Cold Defense, which reduces Hypothermia. Wear something on your head, body, arms, legs and slots.
- Use a torch, eat soups and stews. Gives small bonuses to Heat.
- Frost Resistance (When you start the game as a Nord, you have a higher Heat level than others)
- Skill Endurance. Achievements from any kind of fire and the Endurance skill can increase your survivability in any circumstances.
- Look at the sky. Rain will get you wet, greatly increasing Hypothermia. Blizzards can be sudden and deadly.
- To stay warm and dry, light a fire or go indoors. Many houses and taverns have fireplaces. Just stand by the fire and your Hypothermia and Humidity will quickly decrease.
- Hypothermia does not increase indoors, so going into the nearest cave during a snowstorm is a wise decision.

Warmth and Cold Protection:
Frostfall introduces two new attributes:
Warmth is a measure of how well you can tolerate cold for long periods of time. Some armor, such as fur, has a high Heat value. By eating soups and using a torch, you receive a temporary bonus to the Heat status. There are other ways to increase Heat levels.
Cold protection is a measure of how quickly you get wet during severe weather. Some armor, such as leather, have a high level of Protection from Cold. Shields also add a small bonus to Protection from Cold.
Your overall Heat and Cold Protection are displayed at the bottom of the inventory menu (when using SkyUI 5.1+ and the addon option: SkyUI 5.1 Add-On for Frostfall 3.0
(picture)
Warmth and Cold Protection are displayed on the armor icon:
(picture)
Note:
It takes a couple of minutes to display the Heat and Cold Protection values on the icon in your inventory. Everything is fine, this is not a bug.
