I love in Armenian with Armenian letters. Greetings, general expressions
Russian-Armenian phrasebook: how to communicate in an unfamiliar country. Popular phrases and expressions for travelers.
- Last minute tours Worldwide
The Armenian language (Հայոց լեզու) belongs to the Indo-European family, is usually classified as a separate group, and is considered one of the ancient written ones, since its alphabet was created by Mesrop Mashtots back in 405-406. n. e.
The total number of speakers around the world is about 6.4 million people, most of them are residents of Armenia, as well as the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Azerbaijan), and, of course, emigrants around the world. Being a branch of the Indo-European language, Armenian came into contact with various Indo-European and non-Indo-European languages - both living and now dead, having adopted from them and brought to the present day much of what direct written evidence could not preserve.
In 2005, the 1600th anniversary of Armenian writing was widely celebrated.
“After the collapse of one big language, beauty arose: the language of the Greek - gentle, the Roman - sharp, the Hun - threatening, the Syrian - pleading, the Persian - luxurious, the Alan - flowery, the Goth - mocking, the Egyptian - as if coming from a secretive and dark place, the Hindu - chirping, but the Armenian is tasty and able to absorb all languages. And just as color is brightened by another (compared to another) color, and face by face, and height by height, and art by art, and deed by deed, so language is beautiful through language.”
Yeghishe, Interpretation of Creation, 5th century

Greetings, general expressions - any cultured person should be able to start a conversation; this section contains all the words needed for this, as well as general phrases that will be useful during direct communication.
Numbers and numbers - translation of numbers from zero to thousand, and their correct pronunciation.
Shops, hotels and restaurants are the most frequently used words and phrases when visiting shops and restaurants, as well as translating the names of food products. In addition, here are phrases that will help you check in and stay comfortably at the hotel.
Transport - translation of words that you will need when traveling by transport, or words with which you can find out the price of a ticket or how to get to the nearest stop, and which bus route to choose.
List of colors - translation and pronunciation of all the colors of the rainbow and their shades.
Contingency – A section that any hiker should keep on hand. Here are phrases that can help out in the most difficult situations. You can call for help, find out where the nearest police station or hospital is, and so on.
Food theme - translation of the most purchased and common food products.
A friendly large family, “azg”, with a strict hierarchy is an unchanging component of Armenian society. Every child adopts reverence for elders from infancy, observing the relationships of all family members. So, everyone clearly knows and fulfills their responsibilities.
In Armenian families (“ojah” - hearth), the elders constantly take care of the younger ones, and the younger ones sincerely respect the elders. Such cohesion is observed not only in a particular clan, but also among the people as a whole. Wherever the intricacies of fate throw them, they will always find fellow tribesmen and will maintain strong ties.
Tasib
The second national feature of the Armenian people is “tasib” - generosity and inexhaustible hospitality. Despite their temperament and quick temper, Armenians are hospitable hosts. Regardless of the status of the guest, he will be surrounded with due attention and honor. Everyone here will be gladly given shelter or an overnight stay. When setting a rich table, they will put out the best treats, and if the family’s wealth does not allow this, sympathetic people will come to the rescue. When offering treats, as a rule, they will say: “eat bread,” instead of the usual “go to lunch.”
Barev
When meeting, Armenians say: “Barev dzez!” - "Hello!". Or “Barev zez argeli!” where "argels" - "". But more often they use its abbreviated form: “barev” or “vokhdzhuyn” - “hello”, as well as “vontses?” - "How are you?" or “barev vonces?” - "Hello how are you?".
It also happens between close friends: “Vonces Ahper jan?!” - "How are you brother?" or “Vontzes Kuirik jan?!” - “How are you, sister?!”
When greeting a girl they know, they sometimes say: “Vontzes Siryun jyan!”, where “siryun” means “beautiful.” When addressing a child, adults usually say: “Barev akhchik jan” or “Barev tga jan,” where “akhchik” is “girl” and “tga” is “boy.”
The form of greeting also changes depending on the time of day. The morning greeting sounds like “barii luys”, where “luys” is light. During the day you can hear the expression “barii or” - reminiscent of our “good afternoon”. When they meet in the rays of the sunset, they say: “barii hereko.”
After the greeting phrases, the Armenian will definitely ask: “Inch ka chka?”, roughly translated - “what news, what’s new?” And he will not only show a modest, keen interest in your words, but will also ask about all members of your family. And only after this will he delicately move on to discussing the issue that interests him or express his request, if he has one.
