DIY garage made of expanded clay blocks. Construction of a garage from expanded clay blocks

A garage made of expanded clay concrete blocks is a budget option for building a separate garage building. Compared to brick, foam concrete and wooden beams, a garage made of expanded clay concrete blocks has an attractive cost and high performance characteristics.

The blocks are made from a mixture of cement, fine crushed stone, sand and expanded clay, which determine their properties, we list them:

  • The content of concrete determines the high strength of the material. They can be used for buildings whose walls experience heavy loads.
  • The porous structure of expanded clay provides the presence of cavities, thanks to which the material has thermal insulating qualities.
  • The blocks contain only natural materials. Do not contain harmful impurities. Therefore, expanded clay concrete belongs to the category of environmentally friendly building materials.
  • The material is inert under any conditions.
  • Expanded clay concrete blocks are a stone of artificial origin. Therefore, it is resistant to mold, dampness, rot, insects and small rodents. Does not change its structure and properties in conditions of high humidity, heat, and low temperatures.
  • Despite their lightness, the blocks have significant dimensions, so erecting walls takes little time.
  • Economical material. Due to the presence of voids, the contact area between the blocks is minimal. Therefore, a small amount of binding solution is required. A block wall can be sheathed with any sheet or wet finishing material.

Tools and building materials for garage construction

To build a garage from expanded clay concrete blocks, in addition to the blocks themselves, you will need the components for the binding solution - cement, crushed stone, sand, steel mesh and reinforcement, roofing felt, building materials for constructing formwork.

A set of construction tools: shovel, tape measure, level, welding machine, hammer drill, screwdriver, hammer, wood saw, grinder, concrete mixer, stepladder and sawhorses.

Project development

The size of the building is determined based on the number of cars. The standard garage height is 3 m. For one car, a usable area of 3x6 m is sufficient. For two, it is recommended to increase the width to 5.5 m or more. If you plan to place shelving on the walls, then another 50 cm is added to the length and width.

The garage plan must include indications of the following elements:

  • foundation, its type and material of manufacture;
  • window openings;
  • gates, doors;
  • floor slabs;
  • roofing structure, its type and material of manufacture;
  • ventilation system.

Based on the project, a cost estimate for construction materials and work and a construction plan are drawn up.

Site preparation

  1. It is better to choose a place for the garage on a hill to avoid flooding with melt water or during heavy rains.
  2. Before starting construction on the selected site, a set of preparatory measures is carried out.
  3. On the site, according to the plan, we mark a rectangle with the given parameters. We check the correctness of the markings by measuring diagonally.
  4. We remove the top layer of soil, 20 cm. We clear the area of stones, tree roots and other elements that violate the integrity and evenness of the surface.
  5. To prevent flooding, we are installing a drainage system.

Water protection

You can combat water penetration into the garage by concreting and waterproofing the base. But this is not always effective. Water can also flow along the surface of a concrete floor. In order to prevent such a development, it is recommended to install a drainage system in the garage. There are several ways:

  1. Surface drainage. Suitable for a free-standing building. Around the building, at a distance of 1.5-3 m from the walls, we dig a trench up to 1 m deep. We fill the bottom with sand and lay a layer of geotextile. This will prevent the trench from collapsing if the water flow is too strong. Plastic or metal pipes with holes are joined together and laid at the bottom of the trench. We fill it with earth and compact it. Water enters the pipe through the holes. To prevent them from flooding, it is recommended to wrap the pipes with geotextiles.
  2. Drainage with storage tank. Suitable for rooms located in areas with frequent flooding. We dig a hole at the base of the garage. We install a barrel in it, preferably made of plastic, to prevent rust. We pour a layer of expanded clay on top and cover it with geotextile fabric. The finished floor can be made of moisture-resistant plywood or boards. A pump with a float switch is installed in the barrel, which turns on as a critical level of water accumulates and discharges it into the sewer.
  3. Well outlet. Instead of a barrel in the floor, we dig a hole 2 m deep. A casing pipe with drilled holes for the passage of water is installed in it. The pipe is filled with crushed stone and gravel. Through the pipe, water is discharged into the deep layers of the soil.

Garage foundation made of expanded clay blocks

Let us immediately make a reservation that expanded clay concrete blocks are not suitable for building a foundation. Due to the lightness of the wall material, a permanent foundation is not required. The foundation can be strip or block. Depth - at least 0.5 m. Construction of a block foundation takes less time. The monolithic foundation is poured from concrete, which can take about a month to completely dry. In contrast, a block foundation does not require curing.

They are made using vibrocompression technology from concrete with the addition of special additives that give the finished material valuable performance qualities: resistance to temperature fluctuations and aggressive substances. Cement mortar is used as a binder. It is recommended to reinforce the joints with reinforcement with a diameter of 14 mm.

The procedure for arranging a strip foundation made of concrete

  1. We dig a pit. We level the bottom and compact it thoroughly.
  2. We fill in layers: 20 cm of gravel, 20 cm of sand.
  3. We install the formwork. We fix it firmly, otherwise the structure will shift under the pressure of concrete.
  4. We assemble a frame from reinforcement with a cross-section of 12 mm. We fasten it in such a way that it does not touch the bottom of the pit and the formwork. Also, the frame should not extend beyond the height of the formwork.
  5. We pour concrete. To achieve maximum solidity, the supply of concrete must be constant.
  6. The foundation is left for 3 weeks until completely dry. To prevent cracking of the upper part, the surface is periodically moistened with water and covered with a wet cloth.

Garage walls made of expanded clay blocks

Before starting to lay blocks, the horizontalness of the foundation is checked. If differences in height are detected, defects are corrected using cement mortar.

The procedure for installing walls

  • The foundation must be protected from water. To do this, lay a layer of tar on top, then lay roofing felt.

  • First, the blocks are laid without mortar. The corners between the walls are laid out. The correctness of the calculations is checked using a cord and level. Only after making amendments, if any, does capital masonry begin.
  • Lay out the first two rows. Important! The second row and all subsequent ones are shifted horizontally by half a block relative to the previous one.
  • To prevent the walls from cracking, the masonry is reinforced with steel reinforcing mesh. It is laid after each even row of expanded clay concrete blocks.
  • Reinforced concrete lintels are installed where windows and doors are installed. A significant difference in heights is leveled with a solution of expanded clay concrete.

  • To avoid lateral displacement of the wall when the building shrinks, a steel frame is made along the upper edge.
  • We cover the top of the wall with a layer of waterproofing: traditional tar and roofing felt.
  • For the interior cladding of garage walls, it is recommended to use non-flammable materials that are resistant to chemically active substances. For example, drywall, plaster, ceramic tiles.
  • To insulate walls, a three-layer protection against cold is recommended, consisting of polystyrene foam (can be replaced with fiberglass), polyethylene (protects against moisture) and facing material, such as plasterboard.
  • A simple option for finishing external walls is façade plaster. An alternative option is steel or plastic siding.

Ceiling and garage roof

For the ceiling, solid timber or reinforced concrete slabs are suitable. The roof can be either pitched with a classic rafter system or flat.

In the latter case, the surface is filled with tar and covered with a layer of roofing material.

The simplest and most cost-effective options for pitched roofs are single- and gable-pitched. A feature of a shed roof is the presence of one slope resting on opposite external walls of the building of different heights. The slope is directed in one direction.

Gable roofs have two slopes. The lower parts of the rafters rest on the opposite external walls of the building. The upper ones are fixed on the ridge. By changing the height of the ridge, you can change the angle of inclination of the slopes based on the type of roofing material, household purpose and climatic conditions. Roof slopes can be symmetrical or have different lengths and angles. The end sides of the roof are closed with pediments - when the side partitions of the roof are a continuation of the outer walls of the building, or with gables - partitions made of boards. In the under-roof space you can organize an attic. For the finishing coating, you can use any roofing materials.

Approximate cost calculation for building a garage from expanded clay blocks

An example of calculating the cost of a garage made of expanded clay concrete blocks measuring 4x7x3 m.

Standard block size is 39x19x19 cm.

The final cost of construction is influenced by several factors.

  • Construction region: the cost of building materials and services in different regions can vary significantly.
  • Brand of building materials: among the products of one brand, as a rule, there are segments of different price categories: economy, standard, premium.
  • The cost of construction services also depends on the region. In addition, the contracting organization’s price is influenced by its authority in the market. A contractor with extensive experience and a name that has proven itself in the market may have a significantly higher cost.

You have purchased a car, but have nowhere to park it. You leave your car in the courtyard of the high-rise building where you live, but you doubt its safety. The safety of the steel horse is guaranteed by paid parking, which is not far from the house, but you have to pay for it, and the car is in the open air. It would seem that there is an alternative - a removable garage, but you will have to pay even more for it. All this is a reason to build your own garage. How and from what? There's an answer! This article will look at how to build a garage from expanded clay concrete blocks step by step. The described technology is applicable for the construction of a garage both in a car cooperative and in the courtyard of a private house.

Why expanded clay concrete blocks?

A garage made of expanded clay concrete blocks is easier and cheaper to build, according to many construction experts. With such a huge selection of material that exists today, any ignorant person will simply be confused. Considering that the future construction must be durable and inexpensive, the choice of material should be taken properly. Both prices and technical characteristics play a role here:

Price advantage expanded clay concrete block obviously. If we take such a block and a brick for comparison, then the cost of 1 cubic meter of a wall made of these materials will be strikingly different. Brick is more expensive. The same thing will happen when comparing an expanded clay concrete block with a foam concrete or gypsum block. There is no need to talk about the monolith option at all. These are just a few examples, but it is already becoming clear that the relatively low cost is a big plus in favor of a block made of expanded clay concrete.

Technical features This building material is worthy of attention. Expanded clay concrete itself is unique. Its main filler is expanded clay, known to many. It is known for the fact that despite its volume it has a very small mass. Expanded clay is obtained by high-temperature processing of clay, as a result of which it foams. Such a clay “ball” contains a lot of air, protected on the outside by a dense shell that does not allow water to pass through. The presence of air bubbles in expanded clay makes any product that contains it frost-resistant. High-quality expanded clay concrete consists of expanded clay, cement and expanded clay sand.

Properties of expanded clay concrete block:

  • inexpensive;
  • relatively light;
  • fire resistant;
  • frost-resistant;
  • not subject to rotting;
  • has heat and sound insulating properties.

The material has been selected. To save money on building a garage, you don’t have to hire specialists. Having some knowledge, it is quite possible to complete all the work with your own hands, especially since the expanded clay concrete block has the correct shape. All that remains is to decide where to build a house for your car.

Site preparation

A plot is needed for a garage. For those who live in a private house, it will take a little time to resolve this issue. Those who are the proud owner of an apartment will need to think about purchasing a “piece of land.”

First of all, it is necessary to prepare a certain area of land for construction. The surface should be as clear as possible of all kinds of vegetation. This could be bushes, trees, tall grass. If there are uneven areas on the site, such as bumps or holes, then they need to be leveled (using equipment or manually).

Foundation

Before you turn your dream into reality, you need to draw up a garage project. According to the project, a trench is dug according to the size of the garage. The same size of diagonals guarantees that the foundation will be rectangular. The bottom of the trench is filled with crushed stone and compacted, creating a “cushion” for the foundation. Formwork is installed above ground level. Its height depends on whether the level of the area around the garage will rise in the future or not. Between the inner and outer formwork, reinforcement is tied along the entire perimeter of the trench. The reinforcement should not touch the formwork and protrude beyond its upper part.

Note! It is necessary to check the diagonals of the formwork.

The formwork must be strengthened so that the concrete does not crush it to the sides during pouring. It is better to pour concrete in one day - the foundation must be monolithic.

If it is hot outside, then at first it is necessary to water the foundation with water. This will save it from drying out and destruction. The foundation gains full strength within three weeks, after which you can move on to the next stage.

Walls

The walls need to be erected after the foundation has been “settled”. Before you start laying a block on it, you need to protect the future walls from dampness. To do this, waterproofing is laid on the surface of the foundation, for which roofing felt is perfect. Next, the blocks are laid out so that the diagonals of the building are equal. First, the first row of wall blocks is laid, after which the corners are driven out.

Using a level and a plumb line, it is not difficult to build garage walls if you pull a cord or fishing line from corner to corner. The block is laid on a cement-sand mortar in a checkerboard pattern. Mortar is also applied between the blocks. As already mentioned, expanded clay concrete blocks are lightweight and do not place a large load on the foundation. When the walls are finished, you can begin installing the roof.

The installation of the roof begins with laying roofing felt on top of the garage box around the entire perimeter. A Mauerlat is mounted on the roofing felt, which serves as waterproofing. This is a board that evenly distributes the load of the roof onto the walls. In addition, the Mauerlat connects the roof frame with the building itself and must be firmly attached to the wall. Then the frame is assembled so that the roof has a slope of at least 15˚. This will ensure unhindered drainage of rain flows from its surface, and during snow melting it will eliminate the possibility of leakage at the joints.

Installation of the roofing is the stage at which the construction of the garage comes to its logical conclusion. The roofing covering is laid on the sheathing, which is placed on the frame of the rafter system.

All that remains is to carry out the finishing work, and the result depends on the imagination of each owner of a new garage. Expanded clay concrete blocks have a porous surface and are “friendly” with almost all types of finishes.

This video talks about the features of expanded clay concrete blocks:

This video shows how the laying of expanded clay concrete blocks should take place:

Every year, newer, more economical and easy-to-use materials are replacing the usual, often bulky and expensive ones. Similar changes have affected construction technologies. For example, traditional classic bricks gradually began to be replaced by expanded clay concrete blocks. European countries and the USA alone account for up to 40% of the use of expanded clay concrete blocks. And this preference is absolutely natural, since Europeans primarily value the environmental friendliness of materials, which distinguishes these blocks. Of course, the advantages of a brick garage are also obvious, but the cost of brick buildings is quite considerable. How to build a garage from expanded clay concrete blocks?

Expanded clay is an excellent wall material. It is inexpensive and at the same time has excellent thermal characteristics.

Advantages of expanded clay concrete

The use of expanded clay concrete blocks can be considered a rational option for the construction of various structures. In no way inferior in quality to brick, these blocks even surpass it in many nuances.

And this is not just a cheap replacement for a more valuable material, but a modern product of technical progress with improved qualities and at the same time low cost.

Moreover, the use of blocks not only significantly reduces the cost of construction, but also significantly reduces its time. For example, it will be erected in a relatively short time and will be endowed with two important requirements of any construction - reliability and strength.

Manufacturing technology

Expanded clay concrete blocks can “breathe”, thanks to which normal humidity is always maintained in the garage.

Expanded clay concrete blocks are made by vibrocompression using heat-wet processing. Their main components are cement, sand, expanded clay and water.

Expanded clay is obtained by firing foamed low-melting clay at high temperatures (1250 degrees). The result is a porous material in the form of oval granules or sand. The predecessor of expanded clay concrete blocks are cinder blocks, in the manufacture of which slag was used instead of expanded clay. But due to the fact that the cinder block did not meet strict environmental requirements, it was discontinued.

A garage made of expanded clay concrete blocks will cost you less than a garage made of other materials, and its construction will take an order of magnitude less time.

Due to the use of fine-grained expanded clay with a diameter of 5-10 mm in the production of modern expanded clay concrete blocks, the final product is light and very durable. Such blocks have increased resistance to chemical attack, greater moisture resistance compared to cement concrete, they do not rot, do not smoke when ignited, and they also cope remarkably well with the negative effects of caustic alkalis, soft water, sulfate solutions and many other aggressive environments. Thanks to this universal characteristic of the material, even an expanded clay concrete garage that is not plastered for the winter will not dry out or be damaged due to sudden temperature changes. When cladding a garage, you can use siding, plaster, and apply special panels.

Expanded clay concrete blocks have the ability to pass steam through the pores, due to which the humidity inside the room can be regulated. The thermal conductivity and nailability of structures made from this material differ significantly from concrete and brick due to their improved characteristics. The absence of fractional filler in the blocks lightens the weight of the entire structure, which helps reduce pressure on the foundation, and the special structure of the blocks improves the soundproofing properties of the structure.

Types of blocks

A traditional cement-sand foundation is poured from a mixture of cement, sand, crushed stone, water and a plasticizer.

  • thermal insulation (density 300-600 kg/cub.m) are used in the construction of multilayer structures as insulation;
  • structural (density 1400-1800 kg/cub.m) are used in the construction of load-bearing structures;
  • structural and thermal insulation (density 750-1200 kg/cub.m) are used in the construction of walls.

For the construction of walls, the best option is a material density of 800-1200 kg/cubic meter, since a lower density causes increased fragility, and a higher density reduces the heat and sound insulation properties of the structure.

There are two groups of expanded clay concrete blocks: lightweight - with a density of 800-1200 kg/cub.m, which have a granular surface, and universal - with a density of 950-1200 kg/cub.m, with a smooth surface.

A foundation made of expanded clay concrete blocks can be a good alternative to a cement foundation, and it will be cheaper.

It is better to build a garage using universal blocks, which are quite easy to finish due to their smooth surface and have a low cost. The strength grades of such blocks vary from M25 to M100. The construction of small buildings is usually carried out in blocks below grade M50. Expanded clay concrete blocks are also distinguished by their frost resistance, which varies from F15 to F100, of which F35, F25 and F15 are not considered environmentally friendly and are endowed with reduced frost resistance due to the addition of chemicals to concrete.

The most common dimensions of garages are buildings of 3 x 6 m. But this issue should be considered individually, depending on the parameters of the car. At the same time, in addition to space for the car, it is necessary to provide an area for opening doors, for placing shelving, rags or furniture, as well as storing other items. Don’t forget about the additional protection of a thermally insulating coat, which will also take up some of the space.

Cost may vary depending on region. Here it is worth considering the brands of building materials, the sizes and density of the blocks. There are a large number of different materials on sale from different brands, so every buyer will be able to choose the material at an affordable price.

Construction of a garage

So, let's build a garage. To calculate the required amount of materials, in addition to the main area, the number of windows, width and gate design are also taken into account. If we take the calculations for constructing a garage with dimensions, for example, 4 x 7 x 3 m, then to install the foundation you will need:

Diagram of a fragment of a wall made of kerazit-concrete blocks. A serpentine level or level is used to level the blocks.

  • water – 1.6 cubic meters;
  • crushed stone - 8.7 tons;
  • cement – 3.2 tons;
  • sand – 5.4 tons;
  • plasticizer C3 – 0.8 l.

The number of blocks is calculated based on the size of their standard version 39 x 19 x 19.

To lay walls you need:

  • expanded clay concrete blocks – 776 pcs.;
  • water – 0.2 cubic meters;
  • cement – M400 0.2 t;
  • sand – 0.7 cubic meters.

First, a trench up to 30 cm wide is dug along the perimeter of the proposed building and a film is laid along the even walls. Then the bottom of the trench is covered with a sand and gravel cushion and filled with water. The height of each layer is up to 10 cm. Ultimately, the concrete mixture is poured and the construction process stops until it dries completely.

We build the garage floor according to the same scheme, since it must be reliable and durable to support the weight of the car. To do this, first the soil is compacted, covered with a film, and a cushion of sand and gravel mixture is poured on top. To increase strength, a reinforcing network is installed, which is filled with sand-cement mortar with the addition of crushed stone.

It is not necessary to finish the walls from expanded clay concrete blocks, but if there is such a desire, then the walls should first be aligned with the beacons.

The foundation is ready, now we are building the walls. identical to brick laying technology. A reinforced network with a cement-sand mixture is laid on the finished foundation along the width of the wall. In this case, the network will prevent the solution from leaking outside the block. Then the block is installed, and a solution is applied at the junction with another block. When laying the next row, the blocks are installed with a half offset to ensure uniform pressure from the wall mass.

Usually performed using specialized equipment, for example, an angle grinder. The holes under the windows are reinforced with wooden boards. In order to insulate the walls of the garage, expanded clay concrete blocks are covered with a cement coat on the outside and foam plastic on the inside. For natural ventilation, a small hole is made in the back wall.

We build the roof according to a pre-developed project, in which first load-bearing beams are installed along the walls, then a frame on which boards are laid, and roofing felt on top to prevent water from entering.

A garage made of expanded clay concrete blocks can be finished in the same style as the house.

Based on the dimensions of the garage 4 x 7 x 3 m, you will need:

  • roof area 28.14 sq/m mauerlat, timber 2 pcs. – 150 x 150 x 7000 mm;
  • roofing felt/film for waterproofing – 33.8 sq/m;
  • solid lathing, board 40 pcs. 20 x 200 x 3500 mm – 0.56 cubic meters;
  • rafters, timber 100 x 50 x 2010 mm – 0.21 cubic meters (i.e. 21 pcs.);
  • sparse lathing, timber 20 pcs. 50 x 50 x 3500 mm – 0.16 cubic meters.

If we consider the process of insulating a garage room more carefully, then the best option for insulation is considered to be a flooring made of three layers, of which the first layer is fiberglass or foam plastic, the second is polyethylene that protects from moisture, and the third is a finishing material, for example, plasterboard.

The last stage of garage construction includes the plastering process. After its completion, the final touch is applied - detailed finishing. Here the most daring creative ideas and individual preferences can already be brought to life.

If the services of specialists are planned during the construction process, this will entail additional costs that should be included in the list of expenses.

Advantages of building with expanded clay blocks

The basis for the production of blocks This type is expanded clay. Outwardly it looks like foamed baked clay. From a mixture of expanded clay, cement, sand and water, blocks of different sizes are formed, hollow from the inside. The density of the blocks depends on the amount of expanded clay in the mixture. Construction of a garage from expanded clay blocks is advisable because:

Difficulties in working with expanded clay blocks

Don't go for cheap. When purchasing material, you must carefully inspect almost every item of product. If there is the slightest violation of integrity on a block, it will soon collapse completely. We recommend making purchases from large manufacturing enterprises, avoiding small traders. Do not put off the exterior finishing of the garage for a long time; it is recommended to carry out a set of works immediately after building the walls. The blocks do not have a very aesthetic appearance, so siding or other finishing will add not only external beauty, but will also provide additional protection to the walls. Without finishing, within a couple of years the walls will begin to collapse.

  • Low material price. Construction will cost an order of magnitude cheaper than with brick without loss of quality with the same performance indicators;
  • Masonry made of expanded clay blocks will “breathe”. It’s easy to stay in the room, it’s easy to heat in winter and stays warm well, and cool in summer;
  • Simplicity of wall laying. To build a garage from this material yourself, you do not need special construction knowledge or special equipment. The blocks are lightweight, so there is no need to use special equipment. Thanks to the correct geometric dimensions, the blocks are easy to stack, forming smooth walls;
  • Reliability and long service life garage;
  • The material has good technical performance;
  • Biostability. Expanded clay blocks do not rot and do not exhibit corrosion properties, mold does not multiply on the surface and fungus and other biological masses do not grow;
  • Moisture resistance. This building material is highly resistant to any influence of moisture. Such a garage will always be dry and warm.

Have you bought a car but have nowhere to put it? Many people are so excited about buying a vehicle that building a garage is the last thing they think about. But you don’t want to leave it in the courtyard of a multi-story or private house, and it’s not safe. The car can be stolen, scratched, or the glass broken. And the atmospheric influence does not have a very beneficial effect on the body. This is why you need to buy or build a garage. If everything is simple and clear with the purchase, then you need to pay special attention to the construction. The main question asked by those who want to build a garage is what to build it from. There are many options, but in this article we will look at building a garage from expanded clay concrete blocks.

What is expanded clay concrete? What are its pros and cons? What do you need to know to build a garage from these blocks? You will learn all this from this material.

Review of expanded clay concrete blocks

You will be surprised, but building a garage from expanded clay concrete blocks will cost you much cheaper and faster than a brick garage. Moreover, the structure will be lighter, more durable and warmer. It's all about the characteristics of expanded clay concrete. In addition to cement, such blocks contain expanded clay, which is known for its thermal insulation properties. It is porous and can absorb and store a lot of liquid. What is the advantage of this material for building a garage?

  1. It has a low cost. If we compare it with brick, then the cost of 1 m 3 of brick wall will be much higher. It will take a lot of bricks and mortar. Even some types of foam blocks will cost more. For a low cost you will get an excellent garage.
  2. Light weight. The blocks are light, so the entire structure will not be heavy. You can save on building a foundation. And it’s much easier to work with the material.
  3. Frost resistance. The material is not afraid of freezing and thawing processes.
  4. He has high fire resistance.
  5. Will not rot or rust.
  6. The constructed garage will have good thermal insulation and sound insulation.
  7. Ease of working with blocks no less important point.

That's why many builders prefer expanded clay block. And it is absolutely perfect for the garage. And the fact that you can also save money on hiring specialists by doing everything yourself also speaks in favor of this material. Let's look at the technology of building a garage from expanded clay blocks from scratch.

Stage No. 1 - planning

At first it all comes down to mental work, on paper. You must have some kind of plan or drawing that details the size of the garage, the type of foundation, the dimensions of the foundation, the type of roof and the calculation of the necessary materials. It is stupid to start construction without a plan. It's like walking in an unfamiliar city without a map. You may end up in the wrong place. It’s the same with a garage: if you don’t have a guideline in construction, then success is not guaranteed.

You must make a garage that can accommodate not only the car, but also parts, tools and other things. Often garages are made into a workspace where you can spend time repairing your car. The room should not restrict your movements, and you do not need to perform serious maneuvers to enter and exit it. In addition, choose the type of foundation, diagram it and calculate the amount of concrete. This plan will help you build a garage from expanded clay concrete blocks with your own hands quickly and correctly.

Stage No. 2 - site preparation

When you have everything ready on paper, you can bring your plans to life. First of all, take care of the area where the garage will be located. It needs to be prepared. First, remove everything that will disturb you. Stumps, bushes, debris, tall grass or trees - all this will only get in your way. They can be removed either manually or using special equipment.

It is advisable that the area be leveled. Strong changes will only interfere. Fill in deep holes and level out large mounds. After such manipulations, you can get to work.

Stage No. 3 - foundation installation

The foundation must be built according to plan. Since expanded clay concrete is a lightweight material, a medium-depth strip foundation will do for a small garage. You can build a strip foundation with your own hands. Let's look at the instructions in detail:

Advice! It is better to do the pouring at one time, without waiting for the concrete to dry. Then it will be much stronger.

Stage No. 4 - laying walls

It takes approximately 3-4 weeks for a concrete foundation to dry. After this, you can begin laying walls from expanded clay concrete blocks. The process is not complicated, but it requires attention.

To protect the walls from dampness, several layers of waterproofing need to be laid on the foundation. Use roofing felt. It's cheap and does the job perfectly. Next, start laying. Unlike brick, you can build walls in one block. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Place corner blocks on both sides. They must be set perfectly to the level, as they will play the role of guides.
  2. Stretch a line between the blocks that should touch their tops. It is on this that you will lay out the remaining blocks.
  3. Cement mortar is used for fixation, and a rubber mallet is used for adjustment.
  4. Lay out the first row of blocks along the line.
  5. When the perimeter is ready, start the same procedure: install corner blocks, stretch the fishing line and lay out the second row. Only this needs to be done with a bandage so that the structure is durable.

Note! Each stage of wall construction must be checked for evenness. It is very important that the garage is of the correct shape and does not collapse. Use a level and plumb line when working.

When erecting the box, form window openings and space for the gate. When the walls have reached the desired level, you can proceed to the next stage of work. Only before this you should make a reinforced belt, since the upper part of the walls will be subject to additional load from the roof.

Stage No. 5 - roof construction

Again, you first need to make high-quality waterproofing. To do this, lay roofing material on a box of expanded clay concrete blocks. A Mauerlat is installed on top of the roofing felt - a special board that will evenly distribute the roof load across all walls.
