3. In a niche

Often, our apartments are not perfect. They have weak points - uneven walls or non-standard niches. Just such disadvantages can be easily turned into advantages using leftover wallpaper. Look how interestingly they decorated the niche by covering it with wallpaper, lighting it with built-in lamps and decorating it with moldings.

4. On the stairs

Sometimes, after repairs, narrow and oblong scraps remain, which at first glance have nowhere to apply. They are perfect for decorating stair steps. This looks especially relevant at the dacha.

5. On the refrigerator

Another fun idea is to decorate your refrigerator with wallpaper. Still looks better than numerous stickers or magnets. But not everyone will agree to such an experiment, so you can try it at the same dacha.

6. Inside the furniture

It is much safer to decorate furniture with wallpaper. For example, the inside of drawers or shelving.

This idea is ideal for those who have long wanted to update their interior or old furniture, and have also been eyeing beautiful designer wallpaper for a long time (for which not everyone has the budget). For such decor you won’t need a lot of wallpaper, but you can match it by color or pattern to other interior items. This way you will make the space stylish and at the same time update it.

7. On furniture facades

Surely this idea will appeal to needlewomen who are not averse to tinkering with leftover wallpaper, glue and furniture varnish. Pasting furniture facades is interesting, but this is work that requires increased care and accuracy.

You can decorate the furniture fragmentarily, and if the amount of wallpaper allows, then decorate the entire closet or chest of drawers.

8. Part of the wall

Today it is fashionable to highlight one wall or even part of it in order to increase the significance of a particular area. For example, at the head of the bed or in the living room by the sofa. Wallpaper is ideal for these purposes. In order to focus attention on this technique, it is enough to paste over the borders of the wallpaper with moldings or paper baseboards.

9. Headboard

Another way to highlight the bed area in the bedroom is to make an unusual headboard. For example, from old window frames decorated with scraps of wallpaper. It sounds strange, but it looks quite impressive.

10. Wall decor

It turns out that even the smallest pieces of wallpaper can be useful for further interior decor. For example, you can use them to make a cute watch or decorate photo frames.

Interiors in rustic styles will be well complemented by wallpaper with large and small floral patterns. Monochrome options are spectacular. They are especially good for Art Deco.

13. Patchwork in the interior

The fashion trend of recent seasons is patchwork. He won the hearts of clothing, footwear, accessories designers, as well as tile and wallpaper manufacturers. Many interior designers began to boldly use this technique in their projects.

If you have several types of wallpaper, you can combine them on one wall. You just have to cut them into identical squares and distribute them in a certain order - checkerboard, zigzag or chaotic.

We have already written several times about the use of wallpaper in the interior. For example, what techniques are used to create the right atmosphere in the kitchen. In this review you can. And if you have been thinking about updating your interior for a long time, then you definitely need to look at the review.

Most often, the remnants of wallpaper after renovation are left just in case, in case something needs to be glued over time. But usually these leftovers lie idle. But you can use wallpaper with your own hands to decorate and make our interior original and new. To bring your idea to life, you can also look for leftover designer wallpaper on sale at a discount. This wallpaper decor will be especially relevant in the country.

1. We update the furniture.

Every home craftsman can update furniture in this way. The main thing is patience and accuracy. We decorate any surface of the cabinet - walls, doors, shelves, drawers.

If you cover the inside of the side and back walls of a cabinet, rack or shelf, the furniture will sparkle in a completely new way.

For a longer service life of such decor, it is first necessary to clean off the old coating: peeling paint or varnish. This can be done using sandpaper. Irregularities or deep scratches, chips must be repaired with wood putty, then sanded well with sandpaper so that the glue adheres better. At the end of the preparatory work, apply a primer and dry the surface thoroughly.

If any part of the furniture needs painting, then do it before working with the wallpaper.

We measure the surface and cut out pieces of the required size from the wallpaper. We glue them to the surface of the cabinet with PVA glue or wallpaper glue, carefully smoothing them out and expelling the air. It is better to use wallpaper glue, because... it allows more time for corrections and processing of bends.

Paper wallpaper must be varnished to protect it from dirt and damage. You must first apply a protective film to the pasted wallpaper, otherwise the varnish may corrode the paper. For protection, use a regular PVA-based primer or remaining wallpaper glue.

The protection is applied to the dried wallpaper in a thin layer. When the protective film has dried, you can coat the surface of the wallpaper with water-based varnish. To make sure that nothing will happen to the wallpaper after varnishing, first try the process on a small piece, and then, after making sure that everything is fine, proceed to the rest of the wallpaper. When choosing wallpaper for decoration, it is worth considering that varnishing makes the wallpaper several tones darker.

If you work with vinyl wallpaper on a dense base, you don’t have to worry about contamination: such wallpaper can be easily wet cleaned. Alternatively, you can use self-adhesive wallpaper. You can decorate not only external, but also internal surfaces. This technique enlivens the space, and gives you the joy of a new thing made with your own hands.

Such furniture will look advantageous if the color of the wallpaper matches the shade of the curtains or decor in the room. Or, on the contrary, among objects of restrained colors it will become a bright accent. If you want to add brightness, you should cover sections of a cabinet or shelving unit with pieces of different wallpaper.

Modern fittings and other details will emphasize the stylishness of the updated furniture. This decor from leftover wallpaper is an opportunity to include an additional pattern, color, or ornament into the design of the room.

Furniture covered with the remains of wallpaper will take on a new style - Provence, country, vintage or any other. If the top is scratched and worn, losing its former luster, you can stick suitable wallpaper on it. This method is used to update various pieces of furniture: chest of drawers, cabinets, dressing table. And to decorate the top of a coffee table, just cover the top of the wallpaper with thick glass. This way you can remove or change the wallpaper at any time. Remnants of wallpaper can also be used to cover any furniture, such as cupboards, drawers, screens, stairs, racks and shelves.

The interior staircase looks stylish with the risers covered with the remains of wallpaper. Remnants of moisture-resistant wallpaper, harmonizing in color with the surrounding interior, are ideal here. A contrasting geometric pattern or traditional ornament will look great.

2. We make blinds for windows.

Paper blinds are a creative idea for decorating the windows of a veranda, cottage, as well as any window on hot days to protect from the sun. And they look more stylish than foil protection. Paper blinds are the lightest, do not require cleaning, and are perfect for the kitchen, which cannot be said about a fabric product.

You can make these blinds in just a couple of hours. It is better to choose wallpaper that is quite dense. The best ones are non-woven ones, light colors, reflect light, without large patterns and not too variegated. We cut the canvas to a size equal in width to the width of the glass, and in length - 25% greater than the length of the glass. We fold the wallpaper canvas like an accordion; folds should be 2.5 - 5 centimeters in size.

In this case, the end of the lower one should be directed downwards, being a complete “step”, and the upper one should look up, opening outwards. Using a hole punch, an awl or a thin drill, we make a hole in the middle part of the folded fabric into which we insert the cord. We straighten the blinds and secure the cord at the top with a knot. On the top fold of the blinds we glue double-sided tape, which we use to secure it to the window. We glue the bottom five folds in the middle and secure them with tape. The result is a semicircle "peacock tail".

We put a clamp on the cord, with the help of which the blinds are raised up and lowered. The end of the cord or rope can be decorated with a decorative large bead. You can also make them on two parallel cords, just like real blinds. The procedure for their manufacture is similar. Only in this case will you need a clamp for two holes, which are made at a distance of 10-14 cm from the edge on each side.

3. We decorate objects.

LAMPS. In this way, you will not only update the lamp, but it will also fit perfectly into your interior.

We take the frame from the lampshade. We cut out the paper so that there is a margin of about 2 cm at the top and bottom. We grease the paper with wallpaper glue and stick it on the lampshade. We cut the “reserve” in several places (so that there are no crumpled areas) and carefully glue it inside the floor lamp. The result is an almost new floor lamp. Now, based on our taste and interior, we decorate the lampshade with ribbons, braid and whatever else we want. The leg of the floor lamp can also be wrapped with some kind of ribbons or a beautiful cord.

BOXES. Many people use all sorts of boxes to store seasonal shoes and clothes. These boxes can also be covered with wallpaper. In order for them to fit well into the shape of the box, the wallpaper must be heavily moistened with glue, this makes it easier to bend, drape, and give it the desired shape.

It is very convenient to store all sorts of necessary and unnecessary little things in such boxes. From leftover wallpaper you can make cards, gift wrappings and bags, and much more.

FLOWER POTS, VASES, TIN CANS. Typically, flower pots are made of plastic or clay and are painted boring brown or white. And beautiful products cost a lot of money. You can make a bright and colorful flower pot yourself, and it can also be a good gift with a unique design for a colleague, friend or neighbors.

To decorate flower pots, it is better to take small pieces of thin wallpaper, then they will lie more easily on the surface and not create wrinkles. For better fixation, apply glue on top again. When the glue dries, apply a layer of varnish. The top side of the pot does not need to be covered with wallpaper; I painted it with acrylic paint. Textured wallpaper is suitable for flower pots or vases of simple shape. And vinyl wallpaper on a dense base does not need to be opened with varnish.

Using the same method, we decorate smooth tin cans in which various small items are stored. Wallpaper remnants can also be used to decorate various details: doors, book covers, wall clocks, and that's not all.

FRAMEWORK. When decorating walls with wallpaper, you can move away from conventions and hang them instead of pasting them. For example, in photo frames - it can make a good collage and an excellent alternative to an accent wall. Buy several photo frames of different sizes, but identical in design, and insert into them fragments of wallpaper left after the renovation. Stylish interior decor is ready.

You can use a hoop as a frame. This unusual approach will add zest to the interior, and round shapes will add softness. A plain wall surface can be decorated with entire wallpaper paintings. Pieces of wallpaper are glued onto cardboard and inserted into the frame. Or, on the contrary, you can cut out frames from cardboard and cover them with wallpaper.

Create a composition from frames of different sizes, and also experiment with colors or wallpaper patterns. The same wallpaper in the same frames, located at a short distance from each other, will look stylish.

PANNO. You can make a panel from leftover wallpaper. For a volumetric panel, you must have some kind of panel or slab made of chipboard, thin plywood or cardboard. The panel must be primed and covered with wallpaper on the front side, turning the edges of the paper to the back side. Install the suspension from the inside out.

Paintings with large patterns on wallpaper look especially beautiful. You can hang one panel on the wall, or several, or make a modular panel. Simply sheets of wallpaper were used as panels. In the upper and lower parts, the sheet of wallpaper is fixed to the crossbar. Monochrome wallpaper designs look impressive.

4. Wall decor.

PATCHWORK. If you have many small pieces of different types of wallpaper, you can use them to cover one wall or opening. This technique will focus on a certain part of the room or allow you to divide the space into zones. This design will be a cute decoration for a child's room. A patchwork wall will support the vintage idea of any room decorated in a country or retro style. But don’t forget about color combinations, choose no more than three basic shades.

FIGURES FROM WALLPAPER. You can move away from clear geometric shapes and decorate a plain wall with figures from wallpaper. This idea is especially relevant for children. Patterned balloons, cars, airplanes, letters, numbers may appear in it; from the bright remnants of wallpaper - animals and plants of all varieties - everything will look organic in the nursery. By the way, such an application can be an excellent way out of a situation with unexpectedly painted walls. The figures on the walls will allow the child to touch the fairy tale, and the images of fairy-tale characters will lift the mood.

FALSE PANELS. Using false panels, you can quickly and inexpensively update the design of walls if you want to change something in the old finish. Framing walls in this way allows you to make the room look more elegant in a matter of hours. False panels can be glued on top of plain, smooth wallpaper or on a wall painted with water-dispersion paint. Fragments of wallpaper of the required size and shape are glued on top of the main finish.

It is preferable to choose thick, textured wallpaper that will imitate panels. Wallpaper with silk-screen printing looks elegant. After drying, the “panel” is framed. For this, moldings, wooden slats, and plastic strips are used. The frames can be painted to match the wallpaper inserts or left contrasting. Mirrors, sconce lamps, small framed paintings, wall clocks and other wall decor are hung inside the wallpaper panels. This design of walls with filling panels is typical for interiors in a classical style. For a modern-style interior, you can choose a different frame material: use metal or plastic strips.

HEADBOARD. A bed with a high headboard is an integral element of a bedroom in a classic and English style. If your bed does not have a headboard, you can simply cover part of the wall with wallpaper of a different color and texture, thereby imitating a headboard and creating a particularly cozy atmosphere. Patterned wallpaper against a plain wall is a simple and inexpensive accent that looks very stylish, especially when paired with a similar pattern on bedding or a bedspread.

You can paste over an existing headboard, or you can create an intricate design from a sheet of plywood and wallpaper. Give your headboard an interesting shape and your bed will become a unique focal point in your bedroom.

Turn on your imagination, and then with the help of leftover wallpaper and minimal costs you can transform your interior and make it more comfortable and original! Don't be afraid to take the initiative, be unconventional and free!

WHAT CAN YOU MAKE FROM WALLPAPER REMAINS?

New chest of drawers made from leftover wallpaper.

Basic materials:

    • several small pieces of wallpaper from different rolls;

    • White paint;

    • thin twine for new handles.

Remove the drawers from the chest of drawers and sand the wood. Paint all the elements, and after the paint has dried, glue the wallpaper to the front parts of the drawers. Roll a loop from a piece of twine painted with the same paint, thread it through the hole from the old handle and secure it on the back with a strong knot.

cutting out a house from leftover wallpaper and covering part of the wall in a child’s room with it is simple and fun.

An original solution for those who have a lot of wallpaper left, a little at a time, is to make a world map out of it and decorate the entire wall in the children's room. Very beautiful, funny and educational - please note that next to the countries and continents there are images of the animals that live there and photographs of cities.

Such decor with leftover wallpaper It’s also good because it leaves room for the child’s imagination and the opportunity to continue decorating the wall - using clippings from nature magazines, etc. Take note!

One of the most popular ways in Europe to use leftover wallpaper is making “pictures” from wallpaper.Remnants of wallpaper carefully glued onto hard cardboard (hardboard) and the resulting “picture” is inserted into a frame and hung on a plain wall.

The main secret of success is that the color of the wallpaper should be supported by the color of other walls or accessories (as in the photo - the yellow pattern of the wallpaper rhymes with the yellow color of the walls).

Such paintings are usually made from wallpaper with a spectacular design - large flowers or an exquisite pattern, or with multi-colored geometric shapes. They should be large enough to appreciate the beauty of the design.

Such “paintings” are great for decorating plain walls. If you are making a room with combined wallpaper (three walls are plain, one is highlighted with wallpaper with a pattern), then you can safely make a couple of such paintings and hang them opposite the highlighted wall.

You can do something like this paintings and from two or even three different types of wallpaper- the main thing is that they match each other in color and pattern.

And of course, remnants of wallpaper used for decoration, should match the rest of the things in the room. In the photo above there is a quite ingenious solution - vertically oriented “pictures”, each from one strip of wallpaper remnants. However, there is nothing blue in the interior anymore, and this is not good. It would have been better to replace the gray pillow with a blue one - then the effect would have been stronger.

Popular trend - make paintings from leftover wallpaper and hang them in style wall art. Agree, the solution is elementary, but how witty and original it looks.

With such an unusual wall decor, of course, should only be monochromatic - otherwise the room will turn into a motley mess.

Pictures made from leftover wallpaper should be hung thoughtfully. In the photo on the left, a painting with a geometric wallpaper pattern steals all the attention and distracts from the very beautiful “painting” with a pink flower that hangs above. And with a thoughtful approach, wall art from leftover wallpaper is a great idea.

It's easy to decorate the hallway with leftover wallpaper. If you have a small hallway that does not yet have a closet and only has a hanger, as in the photo on the left, and you want to give it a fresh look inexpensively, this is a good way.

Advice. In areas of intensive use, it is better to coat the wallpaper with colorless acrylic varnish - it will protect it from abrasion.

You can use the remaining wallpaper in the hallway and for covering the top of the walls. This is a very inexpensive way to update the hallway - the walls are painted, and the top is covered with the remains of wallpaper one roll wide. It turns out very nice and is a good help for those who are still far from renovation.

Decorate a built-in wardrobe with leftover wallpaper- a very extravagant idea, however, as you can see in the photo on the right, it can be very productive.

The interior in this photo, generally speaking, minus the closet, is quite shabby, and I do not rule out that the owners simply begged these beautiful leftover wallpapers from their friends or bought them at a big discount at a sale. Also a solution, by the way - while there is no opportunity to do a full renovation, why not renovate the interior for little money?

Leftover wallpaper is a good way to highlight a bedroom headboard, as in the photo on the right. True, this method is only suitable for beds with a missing or very low headboard.

The same wallpaper that was used for the headboard was used to decorate a small box on the bedside table. This gives a beautiful and unobtrusive rhyme. I note that wallpaper is generally not intended for covering things with a lot of folds, such as boxes. Wallpaper, especially heavy vinyl, does not bend well and can form unsightly folds. But if you do everything carefully, the effect is excellent.

Indeed, sometimes the remnants of wallpaper are so ideal for creating a decorative box that you don’t mind the time to tinker.

Advice. When wallpapering a box, soak the wallpaper well with glue so that it becomes moist and easier to bend. If the wallpaper is thick and heavy, cover each plane of the box with a separate piece, carefully joining them at the folds of the box.

The previous methods of using leftover wallpaper are not the most popular in Russia, but the next one was once very common.

Covering the inside surfaces of cabinets and cupboards with leftover wallpaper is what is called in Europe “grandmother’s design”.

Indeed, it has the naive charm of an economical old way of life. However, as you can see in the photo on the left, this method can be used not only in an old dacha, but even in a completely modern interior.

Let's take a closer look at decorating furniture with leftover wallpaper. I have selected a few photos for you that will simply delight you.

Old furniture covered with wallpaper remnants and painted along the contour to match their design, it looks very beautiful, and most importantly - individually, the interior immediately acquires its own style. However, this is a very serious, careful job. It is necessary to remove the old paint, sand the surface well and paint it with white paint so that the dark color does not show through the wallpaper.

Next, paint what will not be under the wallpaper in the desired color, and then ideally carefully glue the wallpaper (and with modern vinyl wallpaper, only the top layer is glued - with a pattern, separating it from the bottom layer of the base). And then cover the entire surface with varnish so that the wallpaper does not wear out and so that its edges do not fray, and the entire surface becomes one. As you can see, there is a whole technological process.

If you are willing to tinker (by the way, I recommend this tinkering for those who work a lot on the computer - it’s a great distraction) for the sake of a good result, great. If not, then it’s better not to start - you’ll ruin both the furniture and materials.

Of course, efforts to renovate furniture are worth making only if the furniture itself has not rotted or dried out, that is, if its base is in good condition. It’s a shame to waste so much work on a chest of drawers that will fall apart in a month.

Wallpaper scraps are often used in American design to make decorative lettering. In general, this technique - decorating a house with letters - is becoming very popular.

Basic materials:

    • about 6.5 linear meters of light wallpaper with a subtle elegant pattern;

    • 4 panels of chipboard (or hardboard) measuring 1.50 x 0.50 cm.

Fasten the panels together using thick masking tape (the texture of which resembles an adhesive plaster) or piano loops. Paste wallpaper on the façade. Carefully tuck and carefully glue their edges on the reverse side - on the sides, and on the combined parts - the joints of the canvases. This design looks especially impressive against the background of dark or bright walls, adding reflected light to the bedroom.

Place the magazine rack sideways on the wallpaper and trace with a pencil, gradually turning it from one side to the other. Cut out a pattern from the wallpaper and cover the stand. Trim any rough edges with a craft knife.

Serving tray made from wallpaper scraps

Basic materials:

    • a piece of wallpaper in accordance with the style of your interior or the mood you want the product to have,

    • a polyurethane or wooden profile, equal in length to the perimeter of the future tray;

    • a piece of plastic (fibreboard or plywood) for the base of the tray;

    • thin glass with processed edges or high-quality transparent plastic;

    • 2 furniture handles.

Glue the wallpaper to the base, place the transparent part on top, then screw the profile using small screws. Attach handles to the end sides.

Patchwork on the wall from leftover wallpaper

Basic materials:

    • several small remnants of vinyl wallpaper in the same color scheme, but with different patterns, dimensions of at least 50x50cm (for a panel 1 meter high);

    • rolled base (for example, cork), the width is similar to the height of the future panel;

    • wall moldings.

Cut the wallpaper into equal squares and glue to the base. Attach the base to the wall using double-sided tape (for linoleum) or strong solvent adhesive. Use small nails to secure the moldings on top to hide the joints with the other wall covering.

Remnants of wallpaper from previous renovations can serve well, help transform the space and become a beautiful addition to the interior. How exactly? We've collected 10 practical ideas and 30 inspiring examples.
Wallpaper can change your interior beyond recognition! And this applies not only to “freshly purchased” rolls. Small pieces that you have left after previous renovations will help update not only the walls, but also cabinets, chests of drawers, lamps and even the stairs. And it will always look attractive, original and interesting.
1. Accent one wall It happens that after repairs there are not just scraps left, but also a couple of rolls. This amount is usually not enough to cover the entire room, but it is quite enough for one wall.
This technique is very popular, allowing you to refresh the interior, spending a minimum of time and money. In addition, this way you can zone the space or focus on a certain part of the room.

2. Patchwork of wallpaper on the walls
If you find several different types of wallpaper, then by combining them and making identical squares, you can cover not only one wall, but the entire room with them (of course, if this quantity is enough).
The patchwork technique is very relevant today, even when it comes to wallpaper. But don’t forget about color combinations, choose no more than three basic shades.
Our opinion: - As for color combinations, white is considered the most universal color, which harmonizes with all shades. It looks best with red, black, brown, lilac, peach and blue.
Wallpaper in beige shades will go well with gray, purple, terracotta, marsh, olive, chocolate and light brown colors.
Gray looks good in combination with blue, pink, green and yellow. But black color is good with cream, beige and chocolate shades, slightly diluted with bright red or yellow.

3. False panels
Another way to make the interior more interesting is false panels created using moldings and wallpaper. It is suitable if the interior is made in a classic style, where false panels in this design are appropriate.
They give the interior a certain solemnity, so wallpaper from a nursery with images of cartoon characters is unlikely to be suitable for this type of decor. Neutral patterns and shades and floral motifs will look best.

4. Exterior decor of furniture
Bored of old furniture? Have your wardrobe and chest of drawers become shabby? This can be easily fixed with wallpaper. If you do not plan to varnish the product in the future, then both paper and vinyl wallpaper will do. Otherwise, you will have to discard vinyl wallpaper, as it may dissolve under the influence of varnish. And it’s also worth remembering that when varnishing, the color of the wallpaper will change and become darker.
Our opinion: - Before applying varnish to the wallpaper, prime it. This can be done using wallpaper glue or PVA diluted with water. Apply the primer in a thin layer after the glued wallpaper has dried. As soon as the primer dries, start varnishing.
For these purposes, both regular parquet and water-based varnish, which is preferred by craftsmen today, are suitable.
To make sure that nothing will happen to the wallpaper after varnishing, first try the process on a small piece, and then, after making sure that everything is fine, proceed to the rest of the wallpaper.

5. Interior furniture decor
Shelving, open cabinets and cupboards covered with wallpaper inside look no less interesting. This technique enlivens the space, making it more homely and cozy. Such furniture will look especially advantageous if the color of the wallpaper matches the shade of decorative pillows or curtains. But it is worth considering that decorating such a plan requires care.

6. Wallpaper lampshades
Considering these ideas, we came to the conclusion that wallpaper is a universal material that is useful for decorating walls, decorating furniture, and even creating attractive lamps. You can make a stylish lampshade from a small oblong piece of scrap paper. If desired, it is easy to cut out patterns or certain shapes in it using a stationery knife, which will be reflected on the walls when the light is on.

7. Headboard
In small bedrooms you can increasingly find beds without headboards, as their counterparts with luxurious headboards are often bulky and intended for larger rooms. In an effort to highlight the comfort zone, many still make the headboard with their own hands. Wooden boards, fabric, wall paintings and photo frames are used. And we suggest using leftover wallpaper, which is also great as a headboard. In this case, it is more practical to use vinyl and washable wallpaper.

8. Stairs
Many people do not dare to experiment with the interior of their home and conduct their design experiments in the country. There is plenty of room to roam around here - even a staircase can become an object for testing. For its decoration, just those remnants that you want to throw away immediately after repair are suitable, because they have an irregular shape and are too short to be used for their intended purpose.

9. Shop Countertops
You don't need glue to decorate the top of your favorite coffee table. All you need is a piece of wallpaper and a piece of glass, suitable in size. This way, you don’t have to spoil the table with glue, and you can remove or change the wallpaper at any time.

10. Wallpaper in a frame
The easiest way to use even small pieces of wallpaper is to place them in a frame. Create a composition from frames of different sizes, and also experiment with colors or wallpaper patterns. The same wallpaper in the same frames, located at a short distance from each other, will look stylish.

After renovation, excess materials often remain: wallpaper, tiles, varnish or paint. Usually their quantity is not enough to fully finish any area. But don’t rush to throw away unnecessary scraps, because you can create a real masterpiece from them. Decor from leftover wallpaper will help to complement the interior of an apartment or cottage in an original way and breathe new life into old furniture. For particularly impressive compositions, you can additionally purchase several rolls of designer trellises to make the updated design element even more original.

Materials for creating decor

The most convenient for creating crafts are paper and non-woven wallpaper. The former are ideal for decorating furniture. Pastel colors with an unobtrusive floral pattern make it possible to create a unique set in the Provençal style with your own hands.

Non-woven wallpaper is more durable than its paper counterpart, and its moisture resistance allows it to be used even for kitchen decor. It’s easy to care for non-woven panels: just gently wipe the canvas with a damp sponge.

Fabric wallpaper also looks organically as an element of a homemade painting. Decor made from such surplus looks very elegant. To protect such a painting from dust, it is better to hide it under glass.

You can decorate a picture or panel not only with wallpaper. To create an interesting composition, ribbons, buttons, lace, thick knitting threads, and dried flowers are suitable.

In addition to leftover materials for wall decoration, you will definitely need wallpaper glue for entertaining handicrafts. You can also use PVA glue: it is perfect for priming wooden furniture. To create three-dimensional paintings, you cannot do without a construction stapler.

It’s hard to imagine decorating an old set without high-quality varnish. They definitely need to cover paper wallpaper to increase wear resistance and give it a darker, rich color.

Wallpaper pictures need to be supplemented with a frame. You can use both ready-made and hand-assembled ones. It can be designed from wooden slats, which are also indispensable when creating a three-dimensional panel, which can be framed with baguettes.

Solid wallpaper panel

Essentially, a panel made from whole sheets of wallpaper is an accent surface on the wall that can be framed with a wooden frame or baguettes. The convenience of the latter lies in the ease of repeated painting: to refresh the decoration of the room, it is enough to simply give a different shade to the homemade frame.

To create an interesting decor, it is better to use fabric or non-woven wallpaper. In certain styles, bamboo-based finishes are also appropriate.

Such an insert can be safely moved outside the wall. For complete zoning of the room, you can stick panels on the ceiling, which will allow you to highlight a specific area of the room. The ceiling panel looks especially attractive above the podium.

For a more original decoration of the room, you can create voluminous modular panels that look especially impressive in monochrome tones. To make a similar decor, you need to paste the wallpaper onto a sheet of chipboard, hiding its free edge with the material.

Panel made from patches

If after renovation you have a surplus of several types of trellises, you can easily create an unusual active wall from pieces of material. To form an original applique, cut the remains into geometric shapes:

  • squares;
  • diamonds;
  • polygons.

Glue these elements to the wall, alternating between different types of wallpaper. A surface like this would look great in a living room or bedroom.

You can also decorate walls using this technique in a child’s room. Compositions with silhouettes of animals, fairy-tale houses and magical characters are more appropriate here.

A modular panel made of patches is another option for an unusual hall decor. This kind of decoration is quite simple to create. With the help of a simple master class you can create an interesting composition with the image of a tree.

  1. Cover a thick sheet of chipboard or foam plastic with a plain background, hiding the free edge of the base.
  2. Trace your hand from elbow to fingers on a sheet of brown wallpaper and glue this element to the center of the panel. This detail will imitate the trunk of the future tree.
  3. Cut two more types of excess material into leaf shapes and continue gluing them onto the panel until the tree crown looks quite full.

Wallpaper paintings under glass

It is best to hide under glass compositions made from fabric and paper wallpaper, as well as paintings with details made from fragile materials that require careful care and are not resistant to washing:

  • threads;
  • ribbons and lace;
  • dried flowers and herbarium;
  • glitter and colored sand.

For example, you can make an unusual picture for the hallway, corridor or kitchen with the image of a vase. It is necessary to paste the silhouette of a flowerpot onto a background of fabric wallpaper. You can decorate the composition with dry herbs, unusually shaped branches, and dried inflorescences.

It is better to prepare flowers for decoration under pressure so that they are as flat as possible.

Photo wallpaper can also become a special touch in the interior design of a home. This decor looks impressive in the bedroom and living room. Wallpaper can be placed either in one large photo frame or in several small ones, having previously thought out a modular composition.

Covering old furniture with paper trellises is a godsend for those who adore Provençal motifs in design. With the help of excess finishing materials, you can create an original piece of furniture that will become the center of the decoration concept.

The technique for decorating a set is similar to decoupage, but does not require soaking the wallpaper with water. To glue wallpaper patches, you need to properly prepare the set.

  1. Clean the surface of the furniture from varnish and old paint.
  2. Get rid of cracks using putty.
  3. To obtain a perfectly smooth surface, treat it with sandpaper.
  4. Prime the work area with acrylic primer.

You can paste leftover wallpaper not only on the façade of furniture. For example, manufacturers often pay little attention to the internal surface of the headset. To create an original and stylish decor, simply glue wallpaper to the back wall of the sideboard. To improve the wear resistance of the material, additionally coat the surface with two layers of varnish.

Furniture decorated with bamboo wallpaper looks original. This set will fit perfectly into an oriental-style interior. For the Scandinavian trend, trellises with imitation of natural stone or spectacular wood are suitable.

Wallpaper installation technology for panels

When creating a panel during wall finishing, the technology for its installation is not much different from conventional wallpapering. The manufacturer's instructions should be strictly followed to properly prepare the wall surface.

But there are some rules, without which it is impossible to create a harmonious composition.

  1. Outline the boundaries of the future panel in advance by drawing lines on the wall.
  2. To accurately draw boundaries, use an accurate laser level. This will reduce the risk that the future composition will look uneven and foreign.
  3. When using liquid wallpaper to create a panel, the frame for it should be fixed on the wall before applying the material itself. Polyurethane moldings look especially impressive in this case.
  4. All additional techniques, for example, patination of the surface of non-woven wallpaper, are carried out before installing the baguette.

Preparation of materials

The remains of the trellises, which must be used to create an original composition, must be prepared in advance, especially if the installation concerns a panel made of scraps, which requires preliminary cutting of materials to form a complete picture.

In addition to wallpaper, it is worth stocking up on a suitable baguette, which will serve as a frame for the panel. The baguette can be made of wood, polystyrene foam, plaster or polyurethane.

For the panel frame, you need to purchase special glue, since wallpaper glue is often not intended for this purpose. For a wooden or polyurethane frame, so-called liquid nails are suitable; for a gypsum or polystyrene foam frame, putty or gypsum glue is needed.

The glue for the wallpaper itself is selected based on its type, as is the paint for the frame. But the most popular of all the variety of materials remains water-dispersion paint.
Before gluing wallpaper, the wall must be treated with penetrating primer.

Surface preparation

Before installing the material in the form of a panel, it is necessary to prepare the wall in accordance with the surface treatment technology for wallpapering.

  1. After removing the old finishing materials, determine the location of the future panel. The section of wall that is visible from anywhere in the room is most harmoniously suitable for these purposes.
  2. Apply markings to the surface. The lines must be strictly vertical and horizontal, located at an angle of 90 degrees. For accuracy, use a laser level.
  3. After delineating the boundaries, treat the wall with a primer. The primer must be applied in two layers. The composition can be used to saturate the entire wall area at once. The most convenient tool for this process will be a roller.

After these steps, the surface preparation process can be considered complete.

When gluing excess materials over already applied wallpaper, it is necessary to carefully prime the walls with a deep-penetrating compound. This must be done very carefully so as not to stain the background trellises and not to lose the aesthetics of the entire composition.

Installation of decorative wallpaper panels

Before applying the trellises themselves, it is necessary to prepare and secure the frame.

  1. Cut the elements of the future frame in accordance with the length and height of the future decorative section of the wall.
  2. Using a stulus or miter saw, trim the edges of the baguette, cutting them at a 45-degree angle.
  3. It is recommended to additionally secure moldings made of heavy materials with self-tapping screws, the holes for which must be drilled in advance.
  4. Glue the molding by applying glue or putty both to the perimeter of the molding surface and to the wall. If necessary, secure the frame with self-tapping screws.
  5. After installing the molding, start filling the frame: hide the heads of the screws, process the joints.
  6. After puttying, prime the surface of the molding and paint it with paint, applying the composition in at least two layers.
  7. After working with the frame, you need to fill the inside of the panel with trellises. Apply adhesive to the wallpaper and attach the canvas to the wall, aligning the cut with the frame.
  8. Smooth the panel from the center to the edge using a brush or rag.
  9. Trim the excess trellis along the edge of the canvas using a utility knife.
